TBH I think it looks quite bulky. And personally whilst I love the technology that allows this awesome visual thing to be done I just don't see the need for it. It's gimmicky.

i like it because it kind of bridges the gap for people who want a tablet but don't want a tablet and a phone. yes it is bulky and i think it will get better a couple generations from now but i'm pretty excited this tech is becoming a reality after being spoken about for a long time.

I wonder if it will take off or sort of be like 3D which didn't really do a great deal. In the future when it's quite slim I'd certainly rethink it.

I don't like the wedge shape when it's closed, but I do understand why it's there. Huawei got around this by putting the screen on the back side of the device.

I also don't like how it is the thickness of two phones back to back. I already have that in my pocket at the moment with my work phone and personal phone when I go out, and I'm counting down the days when I can finally get a dual sim phone through work and I can throw one of them away.

I also don't like that it's going to be upwards of $2700AUD on simple RRP conversion.

But as a concept of having flexible and folding tech, this is exciting. I imagine in the next year we're going to see a bit of an explosion of flex-tech (coining that phrase now) that will start to really test the potential for smartphones, and even other stuff like smart watches.

I'll buy one when it's a 2" device that folds out to 4"

For its price tag, this niche seems to be for productivity, not general consumer use.
    Pass.

Have you seen why there are failures though? Theres a protective screen on the inner fold screen that the instructions say "CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE PROTECTIVE SCREEN" and people remove it and it breaks.

    Stupidity reigns supreme

That's only part of the problem.
The edges of protective film also peels off by itself due to dust/grime build up.
Sample size is too small to know whether this is a serious problem or not.
    Only time will tell.

To be fair, a lot of the early reviewers and influencers on YT have confirmed the packs they received from Samung did not contain any of those warnings, and it's entirely the point of what they do to unbox and peel plastic off to review, so why wouldn't they pull a screen protector off if they see one applied from the factory, along with all the other retail packaging.

Marques Brownlee has a good follow up video about this.

It's also silly to have a crucial part of the design to be that vulnerable to the slightest bit of accidental tampering...
That's certainly not $2000+ worth of R&D and QA.

In their defence, I've been told that the handsets released for preview were strictly the preview model, with actual RTM model yet to come.

Yeah the warning to not remove was added after all the review units were sent out. Doesn't surprise me that reviewers tried to peel them. What does surprise me is that they got them all the way off without realising they were doing something wrong. Looking at how that protective layer looks as you peel it.. how did they not realise?
