Well thats good news about the plug, not sure if there is a Jaycar around here(DSE is here, but only small one), but i'm sure there will be some shop that is similar.

Anyway, after ordering at around 11pm last night, had received email notification from FedEx that they had it and it was in transit by 8am this morn.

I'm still playing around with OSX86 on it at the moment actually.
So far got lan and bluetooth working fine.

wifi and webcam aren't yet - though it looks like I've found drivers for the wifi and will try them over the weekend
fixed screen resolution and acceleration too so all is working nicely now.

It's certainly not the easiest thing to install, but seems to work well and boots pretty fast.
It's cool to have as dual boot - XP and OSX ;)

A Google image search will show the differences better but as a quick sample:

    • Enter key is the taller version compared to the US's right angle.
    • " and @ are switched
    • number 4 key has the $ and euro signs, US kb has just $
    • number 3 key is the pound (currency) symbol
    • \ is found next to / rather than next to the backspace key
    • Tilde is on the right of the second row, not the left of the top row

    ok thanks.

should i wait for the updated version just released? would it be priced the same??

also the Dell Mini looks much nicer in pictures... btw how does the small netbook k/b handle? ive actually never owned a laptop before and when i do type on a laptop i find it a struggle. so would a small netbook k/b really be a hassle for me?

My friend has the Dell Mini and I recently played with it. It was very light and had nice styling but it felt toyish compared to the NC10. Also it only has a 16gb flash drive for storage which is only for the very bare essentials. Personally I think the NC10 looks better.

The newer version will almost certainly be more expensive but it's more of a slight revision than an upgrade, they just fixed the minor annoyances that users found with the current gen.

Dell's 10" Mini is fixed at 1GB ram too.. apparently they soldered the ram directly on rather than make it upgradeable - silly imho.

The Dell Mini 9 is nice, but SSD only - not so useful if you want to store photos/videos and need the space like I do. Of course ymmv.

Have you tried displaying higher resolutions with it? I'm interested in trying to get it to display 1024*768 without scrolling. I know some people have hacked the Eee PCs to do this with various driver mods.

im running standard windows xp build and responsiveness of the trackpad is fine. Mind you its small and if you accidently use 2 fingers at once resizing of browsers can get quite annoying.. because it uses gestures to zoom.

Mind you im now tossing up whether to sell mine because I used it for an overseas trip and now have to justify why I should keep it because it served its purpose.

I've found the trackpad fine also - though admittedly it is on the small side.
The gesture stuff in windows is actually kinda annoying, but I'm sure it's easy to get rid of it.
I haven't used mine long enough in XP yet for it to really bother me (I usually use a usb mouse when it's on my desk at home or work, so really only on the go when I use the trackpad)

Well my NC10 is only, hopefully, around 12 hrs away.

Kinda annoying that it took only 48 hrs to arrive in Australia, but has now been sitting at the same distribution centre for 72 hrs. But i guess if it does arrive soon it will still be an impressive feat of 5 days. Although i guess it would want to be for the price paid for delivery.

Mine arrived, Blue from HK c/o relatives :) Managed to get the logo off of the screen cover, and put an invisible shield on the palm rest/trackpad and back of the screen. Currently running Fedora10, but batterylife seems to be diminished under *nix due to the inability (or my noobness :p) to turn off un needed services
