    Hey all,

Got my paws on a Sapphire HD580 this arvo so i though i would share some initial testing and benchies with you.

Gone up from a 4870/512Mb. The system is as per my sig, e8400 @ 4Ghz, 4 GB RAM, 5850, Vista Ultimate 64Bit.

First up: the card is exactly the same lenght as my 4870 (phew) so it fits into my case (TT Soprano).

I uninstalled CCC and the drivers i had (9.4) and swapped the cards over. Then simply installed CCC and drivers from the supplied disc...no probs whatsoever. Straight away i went into Overdrive and pushed the core to the max (775Mhz) and GDDR5 to 1050 (4200)Mhz. One thing i noticed is the flickering in CCC overdrive after activating it - seems harmless at this stage.

    Now some scores:

    3DMark06 Stock settings:

    4870 - 15700+
    5850 - 18500+
    5850 OC - 18700+ :Paranoid:

I dont have Vantage so please dont ask me to run it. Although 3DMark obviously doesnt show off the cards true potential.

Crysis - 1680x1050, 2XAA, All settings Very High

    Ave: 45fps

    Crysis - 1680x1050, 2XAA, All settings High

    Ave: 56fps

    Far Cry 2 - 1680x1050, 4XAA, Highest settings

    Ave:72fps

Temps around 46 idle, havent seen it go over 65 on load.
Needless to say pretty impressed at this stage, just waiting on the improved drivers....Any other requests for benchies?

I'm looking forward to joining the 5850 club on Tuesday.

Got me a Sapphire 5850 ($314 ex GST), a 24" Benq G2420HD LCD ($210 ex GST) and a set of Creative Inspire T10 speakers ($37 ex GST) coming!

Then I can finally build my new rig (CM690 case, Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P motherboard, 4GB (2x2) 1600MHz Gskill Trident DDR3 RAM and AMD Phenom II X2 550 CPU - will be 'recycling' my DVD-R and HDDs from my current box).

got mine from Getright Comps here in Adelaide.

I dont use 3rd party apps for things like that, no rivatuner, drivercleaner, etc..etc. cause more problems then they are worth.. but thats for another thread.

I pushed the card to max in CCC, these are only 8.66rc drivers, once some decent drivers get released i am sure ati will extend the range it can be oc'ed in CCC.

I doubt that you will get more overclocking headroom thru CCC, the max clocks have always been governed by the bios in past series, This is why the Asus TOP bios have always been so popular, flash and then more o'cing.

its sad cos same thing happened in this forum when i was lookin for i5 750 overclock results few weeks ago. its not hard to do it properly but some reason people in this forum just won't do it.. anyway nvm i guess i'll have to look elsewhere..

lets get one thing straight - i didnt buy this 5850 for your benefit. i bought it for myself. Now in no way did i say what i posted is a review did i?

if you want to know max clocks for a video card why dont you hit up the sites you listed a couple of posts above?

what i am saying is if someone overclocks their gear it is not a requirement for them to push to max overclocks so somebody like you can benefit from it. i didnt have to post shit however i though i would share some initial benchies

if you think i will use some app which i dont want to because you said everybody else does it you can go get f***ed. and dont send me any more PMs

Edit: ***looks at Azzans join date*** you have a bit to learn about this forum yet.

Fair call, I push my hardware , but with what it cost's these days I understand why you don't want to chance killing it for other's entertainment.

Azzan, search for max clock results on the net, has to be some somewhere
