"SB Live" or "On Board AC97 6 Channel"

    Getting a new Mobo and just wanted to know. currently Ive got a Creative SB Live (non 5.1), I have a 5.1 surround speaker setup, on the new MObo it comes with a on board 6 channel AC 97..

    Should I leave the SB in plac or us the AC 97?
    I havent got alot of experiance with these things however a bit of help would be appreciated
    :)

    fuck the ac97 off. Stick your SB Live! in a PCI slot. no doubt. ac97 is shite.

    *edit: my mistake, I didn't see you said the sblive is non 5.1 so I take it all back. I dunno. I'm useless. :D

    Guess I'll keep the SB Live till I upgrade then!???:confused:

    SB live is prefer over ac97. Unless u have 5.1 setup.

    agree, i have both on my two pcs... ac97 is sux. you should upgrade to at least the audigy. At this time the Augidy2 ZS has reasonable price... go for it dude..

    I have a set of logitech z640's (5.1) I guess I will keep the live till i upgrade, looks like I will go for the Augidy2 ZS at this stage.

    heh, I was just about to post a very similar question here myself !

    whereas the sb live card I have does have 5.1 output and im looking to get a proper speaker setup in the future.....

    so whats the deal AC97, besides its 'shite' and 'sux' ?

    is on-board sound inferior (quality/stability) in some way ? does it consume mainboard/cpu resources somehow that a standalone card doesnt ?

    yeah, it uses up yr cpu cycles.

    a stand alone sound card is still better, even if it cannot do 5.1


    u won't hear the electrical signals interference so easily on the sblive, unlike AC'97 solutions.


    i m using the alc655 ac'97 solution though, cos my case needs extra ventilation, hence my sblive is collecting dust... :(

    n my music don't snd tat nice...
