Has any used one of the SC8108 network cable testers that are sold on eBay? They are ~AU$90 which makes me wonder if they are any good considering brandname testers like these are $$$$.

Obviously a lot cheaper than a Fluke tester - but are they any good?

If all you want is a cheap cable mapper then go for it. Apart from that don't expect too much from it.

    SC8108 Lan Cable Tester

I bought one from Hong Kong's sun_mart for about US$59. Not the cheapest deal as I saw them later at another store for approx $35 plus postage. It arrived yesterday here is Brisbane Australia on 10MAY11 after the on-line purchase on the 26APR11.
For the price I'm very happy. It detects shorts and open circuits in a lan cable and tells you whether the o/c is at the main or near end, somewhere in the middle or at the remote end. This is just what I needed to detect which end of a faulty cable to cut off and re-terminate. It has the Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) technology to tell you the length of each pair of the cable. The remote has a beeper in it instead of the led's to identify the correct cable. I could not justify the expensive Fluke equivalent.

I seriously doubt it for that price.

No it does not, it's the next step up from those led wire tester lan checker types.
    The functions are
    1) Wiremap
    2) Pair & Length
    3) Coax / Tel
    4) Setup

Ironically I'm in China and I've spent the last two days running down termination issues with my crappy LED tester and would kill for one of these :wired:
