Google says that Epsilon was hacked on 30 March, so if that's right, the Paypal issue predated the hacking event.

I received the spam to my Dell address before March 30, so the hack took place before that. PayPal Australia might not use Epsilon as their mass email service provider, so any information leaks might be separate events.

Just had my card number taken on a shopping spree for the last two weeks and has given me grief to no end. I got the fraud email (posted about it near the beginning of this thread) and I also use Deal Extreme as mentioned a few posts after the above. I'll be giving everyone I know a warning about this as it seems too much of a coincidence.

None that I can see. Dell did not have the email address that I received this targeted email on. I have bought from Dell several times, always paid by creditcard and gave them my normal email address

    Only Paypal knows this address.

Has no-one received any answer from PayPal about this? It's been over a month, they've had plenty of opportunity to respond.

Good on Dell for being upfront. PayPal could learn a thing or two from them.

I just received an email from Dell too. I totally forgot about that. They have my real name and email address but that was required as I used my card.

I got the Dell one this evening, as well..

Well, that explains the sudden surge in trojan spam (fake DHL emails) I just started receiving on my (formerly clean, little-used) Email address.
Just as well we have our own domain..

    Bloody assholes.

Well, I think he's saying that because a few other people (me, for example) in this thread have had their cards compromised shortly after a DX/Paypal checkout transaction.

    Don’t worry – with PayPal you’re protected
    by DARRELL MACMULLIN on 05/04/2011

As you may have already heard, there has been a major security breach at a company called Epsilon, which is a U.S.-based email marketing company. We want to assure you that PayPal is not a client of Epsilon and that no PayPal account information has been compromised.

PSN drama is unfolding, this PayPal event happening earlier... What's next, iTunes, Steam, Nintendo Wii Shop?

Something tells me that these hacks are going to become more and more common, and that the current systems that consumers are forced into are going to change... hopefully for the better.

My card was also compromised. Shopping spree in France. Very suspect as I made transactions on paypal as well.

Paypal emailed me yesterday regarding suspicious activity on my account. I haven't used my account in 5+ years, nor updated my credit card details in that time. Anyways, the paypal account was in limited use mode and no transactions was visible in the history. Changed the password to something stupidly secure just to be safe, and left the account in limited use mode as I don't use paypal.

The first (and only) bogus transaction was through paypal. Then all the others were purely via credit card where they went nuts on gambling sites and such for about a week

I also ordered via penta about a year ago, It was the first and only time.

I am so very glad I don't use payscam anymore. Especially after they locked my account with $300 in it, that was then emptied. Then they have the balls to charge me ebay and paypal seller fees. Fuck 'em. Paypal are scum.

I just got another spam today, to my paypal-specific email address which I changed recently in reaction to receiving the first spam mentioned by the original poster.

The spam is titled "Shopping Express newsletter 30/05/2011", from: shoppingexpress.com.au and return address: emailcampaigns.net

Happily, no real name was included, but I am beginning to wonder whether Paypal Australia are selling their customers details, or just being incredibly careless in keeping them out of the hands of the spammers?
