Last month I spent 10 days driving around Scotland, which was an absolute blast! The typical Scottish weather only managed to wipe out one day (we saw 2 nice days, the rest were a mix of sun, rain, hail, snow and almost always wind!), otherwise you could generally wait for the local rain to pass to check stuff out (changing every 30mins or so).

The followin are some of the favourite shots. Any CC gladly taken on board!

    1. Edinburgh Castle gates

In this case we arrive with the sun shining and blue skies above, perfect chance to hike the k or two to the castle. But this is early in the trip and hadn't learned the important rule for scotland - never go out without proper rain protection! The 15min dash back to the car afterwards was enough to have us soaked to the bone :p.

    18. Road to Fort William
    [IMG]
The backroads were the best place to be. The winding two way track only wide enough for one car meant it took forever to get anywhere, but the scenery meant you didn't care in the slightest.

    22. Glencoe
    [IMG]
Absolutely stunning place, wish we'd had time to properly explore. But on this day this was taken between giant storms on either side of us, and having just been dumped on we weren't keen to try our luck straight away! Busy schedule the following days meant we never made it back though. Next time Glencoe, next time!

    23. Scottish Highlands
    [IMG]

    24. Ben Nevis
    [IMG]
As luck would have it, the aforementioned perfect days just so happened to land when we wanted to do some hiking! Ben Nevis is the highest peak in the UK at a bit over 1300m. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a proper day's hike, starting in a T-shirt at the bottom and ending rugged up to the eyeballs at the top!

    25. Ben Nevis
    [IMG]
Hard to get a better view of the highlands!

    30. Highlander
    [IMG]
Bloody highland cows! If you go by the tourist postcards, you'd swear these guys are around every freaking bend. Instead we only found em 3 times, compared to the half a million sheep we spotted :p.

The reason we didn't get back to Glencoe. Having checked the weather we had 2 nice days, followed by a tonne of bad ones. One day went to Ben, and we decided the next would be gettin to the top of the Isle of Skye to check out The Storr. Gotta say it was worth it!

Once again off the beaten path, we stayed down this road rather than on Skye.

    40. Eilean Donan
    [IMG]
The location meant we were a stones throw from this stunning castle. Unfortunately the weather meant I didn't get around to doing a proper shot at sunset/night like planned.

    41. The road to Inverness
    [IMG]

    42. Loch Ness
    [IMG]
Has to be said, not the most impressive of the Loch's we passed, but ya can't go to Scotland and not have a quick look for the beast!

    43. Nessie!

    49. Cairngorns National Park
    [IMG]
Not actually sure where we bloody were :D. Somewhere on the long drive from Inverness back South to our last stop just outside of Perth.

    50. Grazing
    [IMG]

    51. Stand Tall
    [IMG]

    52. Teddy Bears
    [IMG]

    53. Scotland

    54. Highlander Imitator
    [IMG]

The end! Bit heavy on the pics, but hopefully they all stand up well enough! Glasgow and Edinburgh were certainly fun to visit, but the reason you go to Scotland is certainly to get out into the wilderness. Could easily spend a week at Glencoe or the Cairngorns and just go exploring. Definitely could come back again some day!

    Impressive work. Thanks for sharing.

I especially enjoyed 15, maybe because I have a young son, not sure.

Absolutely love them all. The most incredible small thing - picture 40 seems a little tilted - can you redo it and correct it? Otherwise LOVE the photo's, love the composition - everything!

Cheers for the feedback fellas :D. Combined you've managed to pick out some of my personal favourites, the other prolly being 18 :p. And yes, would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys gettin out in the nature!

The small preview I can see at work looks ok, but will double check this when I get home!

Happy to upload some hi-res stuff for the OCAU folk :). Just lemme know which ones!

You have quite a few on your Flickr... Loving the ones of the Storrs... and this one DSC07200 (don't' have the link.) Love anything ruined, or otherwise dilapidated, like Kilchurn Ruins.

    Edit:

    And the genuine Tardis ;)

Awesome to get the OCAU tick of approval! You fellas put up stunning stuff, good to see I'm not dropping the standards around here too much .

Yeh Skye was fantastic, just a pity we had our worst weather there for our 2nd day! First was perfect and so we got to see the east and North very well. The second one though was the worst weather of the trip. Still spent the day moving around trying to see stuff, but 90% of the time visibilty was down to maybe 200m at best. Just means there's still a reason to go back at least :p.

She's the third blob from the right, isn't it obvious?! :D

hahah yeh my Flickr is anything but professional, more the massive photo dump for mum back home to browse through :p. One of the reasons I like making a set here on OCAU or elsewhere is it forces you to trim down to what is hopefully the essence of the trip. Even 50 felt like a lot to put up, but given the range of shots and duration of the trip I decided it was valid in the end, and seems like people agree :). But yes, it was hard enough gettin from the original 1500 down to 200, and doubly so to get it to this collection!

not gonna lie, I let out a small squeal when I spotted it

Once more it shows that Scotland is a "photogenic" place.

Only a local could get away with something like that :leet:
