I worked at a PC store and some did come back although it was extremely rare. I myself have never had one fail. The ones we did have fail were generally either data corruption/couldn't be read or they were physically damaged.

I've had one fail once. Well, if data corruption qualifies as failing anyway. Was installed in a TomTom unit if that counts for anything.

CF card in older Canon camera, still going since bought new in 2003. Camera has since died though.

XD card in older Olympus (to replace Canon) still going, bought in 2008.

MicroSD (DSE branded) bought in 2008 still going strong, still in use in it's third phone.

My Corsair SD 4gb snapped in the middle so the top half PCB is just hanging on (the PCB obviously has a crack in it as well) ... and it still works.

GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING WRITE PROTECT TABS!!! STOP FUCKING FALLING OFF!!!!
    *Rage*

1.5 Sandisk Ultra II 4GBs with that problem. i say 1.5 because i just managed to find the tab on my second one. Once they're off, they're useless in my DSLR

Legit Officeworks Stock. And i can see my JB hi Fi Stock Ultra II 16GBs doing that soon....

Also, Legit Sandisk Extreme III 8Gb card just stopped writing.

I've had more luck with my HK bought (in retail shop) Transcend 16GB Class 6 card than my Sandisks....

yes, i had a transcend 16gb card fail. took it overseas with me and had it stored in my check-in luggage. got to my destination and the card was not recognised anymore. it was only about 1 year old so was able to get a replacement on warranty

    Verbatim 2GB Micro-SD.

About a year old, used in my samsung GT-S8300T phone. Never removed or got wet. Started getting extremely hot one day :(

    Doesn't work now.

Not technically a failure, but i have a 2gb sandisk SD card that doesnt work properly with win7. Not recognised as is in a cardreader, and onlyy formats to 960mb in win7. Google says the problem is due to stricter adherence to sd card standards. Wierd. But still an ass-pain.

I had a few cases a while ago where my micro SD cards were dying, I had no idea why.

Turns out that keeping them in my wallet had actually slightly bent the cards, destroying them.
