Hi all, I want to replace a faulty driver board on a seagate ST3320418AS hdd. The firmware on that drive is CC45. I know I need to swap the rom chip over from the original board as it has the bios on it. My ques is does the firmware on another ST3320418AS drive need to be exactly the same as the original board or can it be similar like CC44 or CC49?

just repeating this in case it went unnoticed. Does anyone know the answer?

The people that deal with this level of complexity are over at the HDD Guru forums and they probably should be able to point you in the right direction. http://forum.hddguru.com/

You could also try commercial data recovery places if there's an absolute need to recover the data but its not going to be cheap although they probably will be able to get the data if there is otherwise no physical damage to the drive itself.
