I think the overwhelmingly negative reaction got someone at Sega actually looking at atgames output and decided hey maybe we should ya know do this right. Getting onto the blower with trusted M2 was the smartest move ever. Still sweating on Virtua Racing for the Switch on the 27th and hoping this opens the door for Daytona (I already have the excellent XBox 360/XB1 port so that's less of a concern - but consider 8 way multiplayer Switch.....), etc - my real dream would be to finally get a home port of Daytona 2. So many classic Sega Model 2 arcade games that are slowly fading away and gathering dust in the Sega archives while they pump out 50 versions of Sonic. Get porting boys!
I like the carts, but they will be lost before the week is out. maybe turning them into key rings might be a better idea? are these on sale yet, I have a US trip on Monday.
Up for pre-order at JB, EB Games for $139. I never played Sega when I was a kid so I don't have the nostalgia for it, but may pick it up if it eventually goes cheap. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/retro-gaming/sega-mega-drive-mini/362799/ https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/loot/217654-sega-mega-drive-mini The SEGA Mega Drive console defined a generation of gaming returns in a slick, miniaturised unit. I still think the RRP on all these mini consoles should be under $100. I’ll ultimately wait till it hits that price point before I seriously consider buying one...
Ha! I love the packaging. So true to the original MD box. Brilliant. Then we get another "PlayStation Mini". I'd rather the extra $40 and a quality product with competent developers behind it, like M2.
Absolutely. You look at those PS Mini's and they can hardly give the things away now. A bunch of stellar titles on what should be decent hardware for 140 bucks? Fuck yes please.
Where’s the Master System mini at?!? It’s the one console I owned as a kid. I guess cause it bombed in the US they won’t bother.
Yeah, as much as I love the SMS (back then, and now), I agree that we'll probably never see a mini console of it, due to the lack of popularity in both Japan and the US. It sold very well in Europe and Australia, however our markets at the time were both minimal compared to the combined NTSC markets that were mostly dominated by Nintendo at the time. Sega sometimes sneak a couple of SMS games on their retro collections. It would be great if M2 squeezed and Easter egg or two on this console for fun.
also sold exceptionally well in south america, leading to the formation of ironically @games purveyors of turdsega products. So as a surprise to no-one Sega have officially delayed the Euro launch, how retro!
I really hope it can overcome the AtGames stigma and mini-console fatigue. We all know the difference here but the average consumer just sees yet another mini console.
