Provisional flying program is now out, although it is somewhat disappointing. Link to Saturday's https://www.airshow.com.au/airshow2019/PUBLIC/program/saturday-program.asp

It also looks like the wind will be from the north for most of the weekend, which means aircraft will be taking off from the south. It's probbaly not as good photography-wise.

I'd avoid a monopod too, but again, I don't have a 500. With the wind moving around, there may be a need to relocate, so being mobile could be an advantage.

Good point, the videos I've watched from Avalon 2019 so far show the aircraft taking off from the south and that trend looks like it will continue. Wonder if we'd be better off getting a spot nearer the southern end of the runway instead of the usual busy northern end.

Conditions don't look like they will be any better across the weekend either. Monday is looking good :D

I suppose it depends on what type of shots you are after. Take-off's and landings, then probably the southern end would be better, for the rest, it doesn't really matter. On Sunday the wind is supposed to shift to the south at some point, so that may change things.

That's a pity, she's beautiful to see and hear in flight.

hopefully someone else will take over the aircraft and the AOC from whichever bank ends up with it. was a lot more than just the DC3 business involved

Not so much bad conditions, but they could be better. For me, it's mainly about the wind speed and direction. The runway is north/south and I enjoy photographing more when they are taking off from the north, as you are closer too them when they are on the ground. For that, as they take off into the wind, you need a southerly wind. The forecast is for a northerly, so they will be taking off from the other end and are much higher when they pass the crowd line.

Regardless, you shoot the conditions, what else can you do?

I'm considering having a vasectomy reversed to create some children for trade.
