I was following this on the wholesaler that was supplying for Dessytek, on Saturday they still listed ~290 in stock and the wholesaler updated this to 0 stock first thing this morning.

My estimate is that most people ordering over the weekend from Dessytek may have missed out.

I questioned the wholesaler and they confirmed that the units are EOL and no further items are available once the stock was cleared...

What RAM is everyone going with? Is it worth selling the 1GB and getting an 8GB kit, or should I just try and buy someones 1GB stick and then run it with 2GB. I really have no idea. Thinking of putting FreeNAS on the HP drive (if I can get it to install, have read some people had problems) or on a USB stick and then using 2 x 2TB drives in RAID1. Just want to store my pictures, movies, music and access them from my Macbook Pro, Apple TV (jailbroken).

Also, if I get a video card that outputs HDMI, can I hook this up to my Plasma if needed (as I have no monitor, only my Macbook Pro).

    Thanks for any help.

From what I understand (only been reading about FreeNAS/ZFS since this thread), for a single user you will be fine with 2Gb of RAM. As for your HDMI graphics query; in short: yes.

Interesting that that card list 'Power requirement' as 400W, but a GF520 lists 300W.
While I'm sure they're also including CPU/other bits, why would a Radeon be recommended at 100W higher than a GF?

I ordered last night from DessyTek, order was shipped this morning - must of been one of the lucky ones.

I was just looking at that video card online. Looks like I'm getting the same one.

Thanks for the information. Might see if anyone is interested in selling their 1GB stick to me if they are upgrading the RAM (if anyone want's to sell RAM contact me).

Just an update to this, I shot a question through to Dessytek this morning asking for clarification on this and I just recieved a reply:

    "Hi xxxxxx,

I would say that orders placed after yesterday afternoon are unlikely to be allocated unfortunately.

If you're desperate for one and can find stock elsewhere it might be best to order a 2nd one. I doubt you'd have an issue flogging off the spare if both arrive.

I might get the other 3 from somewhere else.

Surely if they have already charged your credit card they need to cough up the good?

If the product is EOL and has no stock, it's a bit hard for them to do that heh.

Oh well, looks like I am out of luck with DessyTek. Now I've got to try and find one elsewhere. :(

Edit: Placed an order through MegaBuy. Hopefully, their stock level is accurate.

Start with the 1gb, it's plenty for FreeNAS, if you want it to play video, consider going to 2gb - I don't think you'll need 8gb, for any of the things you have listed.

Fingers crossed! I'm trying to talk to them via live support to see if their stock level is accurate.
