    AHCI.

Basically, with ZFS you don't do any fancy RAID hardware config or anything. Just present the drives to the OS as bare as possible.

Thanks for the great response! So 2x2TB ZFS with ACHI would work OK?

Yes. I currently have 2x 2x2TB Mirror vdev's in a single zpool, all in AHCI. Recommend BIOS flash to enable AHCI on the ODD port.

it begs to wonder, if they know they will be getting more stock hence the backorder and not a refund?

Hrmmm I wonder if there's something wrong with a batch of the PSUs? Several people here say their servers aren't loud at all, and that HDDs are louder... but some of us (myself included) seem to find the PSU in the server very noisy...

EDIT: I should have my replacement PSU soon so I'll let everyone know if there's any difference.

statistically speaking, it would be easy for those who have multiple units to confirm *looks at those who have 4+*

There is a drive in mine that goes 'clunk' when the machine turns off.

Not sure if its one of the 2TB ones or the 250GB that came with it.. :Paranoid:

    I've got 4 x 250GBs, and it seems fine.

Well I couldn't say mine is loud, certainly wouldn't describe it as "buzzing". My initial impression was that it is similar in volume to a small, quiet bar fridge. I have yet to power it up with all 5 HDDs running, though.

My bad, I read that as how loud is the PSU for those who have Microservers with 4+ HDs haha.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest available on the HP website. Last question, I promise. :D Is there any advantage to using ECC RAM over non-ECC RAM under FreeNAS 8.0?

Just as a side note, the ZFS version on freenas8 isn't terribly current.

In all seriousness its just as easy to install Solaris Express + napp-it. You get a WAY newer version of ZFS and its a system in active development by a large company.

Re: ECC, yes, it is a better idea, but not neccessary; get it if you can afford it.

looking from the times, couriers please aren't a particularly fast interstate mob, with 3 business days to Adelaide and 5 to perth, that's nearly on par with auspost if not already?

Not much slower, I agree. They are all trucking this kind of stuff though I guess.

You have to pay for AAE if you want it faster but I'd imagine that'd cost a fair bit more again.
