Im a little confused with the internal drive limitations

on one part of the documentation is says
but then in the same document another part says
    wtf

lol yeah, when i called I tried to be as quick and as clearly spoken as possible because it was blatently obvious they were flat out. they called back this morning and didnt seem to be as swamped.

4x 3.5" drives in the front bays.

That's all that matters really... :)

    ah ok nice! :D
the document is weird and misleading, it says 4tb under the models part but under standard features it says 8.

I have to wonder if the item really is discontinued... That seems to be a fairly consistent story from retailers (presumably relayed on from the distributor).

I'm glad you guys who missed out are getting in on the deal. I managed to get one from Harris Tech - ordered last Monday night after I realised my Dessytek order had failed. I paid $220 for it and am pretty happy so far.

I've just got it booting freenas 7 off a flash drive and have a few spare oddball sized drives in it for now. Long term I think I'll be making a zfs pool from 2 or 3T drives ;)

Just bit the bullet, will beg the wife for forgiveness later. Prashant answered himself after only a couple of minutes on hold, quick and simple.

Just rang up to confirm details, got someone different this time, who confirmed my email address, and also changed payment to credit card to make it go a little quicker :p

Probably 1TB drives were the largest capacity at the time of writing and HP didn't want to speculate about compatibility with newer/future drives without thorough testing.

But your concerns are indeed valid.

Just rang and spoke to Prashant, got straight through on the direct number and put in my order. Still $199 with 10-14 day shipping. I told Prashant that 'he was the man' and that a forum post was telling people to talk specifically to him. He laughed and thought it was great.

I just called up. I was on hold for 7 minutes then Prashant answered.

    He quickly goes through:
    Contact info
    Delivery info
    Credit card info
    Order confirmation

    10-14 days delivery time.

    Easy.

Haha... I may call back and place an order for one more (for family), tacking it on to the same order if possible. I may add to what you said, saying the forum thread in question is over 1500 posts big. Wonder how he'd react...

or XBMC, mythtv frontend being a horrible user experience ;)

So you can buy a system with a hard drive, five sata ports, hottish swap bays, a decent CPU and 1gb ram all said and done for $260? I'd like to see that parts list with suppliers on it (seriously)

guys who've got these servers already, can you tell me, is the 12CM rear fan (the noisy one) a 3pin fan header to the motherboard?

I want to know because I have heaps of those awesome Noctua 3 pin extender, RPM inhibitor leads, I wish to add one to lower the fan speed :D
    can it be done easy?

Also is 2008 Std R2 SP1 the general (majority) choice of OS for these? :)

    cheers
