always easiest to do both, I thought 5's and 6's needed the touch thingy/home button done as well.

ok reporting back. apparently the digitizer and lcd are stuck together so any tiny shard risks destroying touch screen. now to try get it under $300 :(

I am currently living in Ireland for student exchange; is that still offered?, plus I don't think I can coax them to use a black screen outine? White and gold is a horrible mix. I was hoping to change the back plate too.

My other half just did the same to her 6 this morning. Glass shards everywhere.

Take it back to Apple and ask for it to be exchanged as an Out of Warrenty repair.
Should cost under $300 ( just a guess, I exchanged an iPhone 5 for 270 when they were less than 12months old ) , and take about 10mins to walk out with a refurbed unit.
Just be sure to back up before going in.

would be cheaper through an apple store as you wont be paying shipping

Yeh was about to say, Apple will repair it quite cheaply we discovered. Wife got her 6 fixed today within an hour for $129.

And often third party panels aren't of the same quality
    - Lower scratch resistance
    - Lower impact resistance
    - Lacking the oleophobic coating
    - Less accurate digitiser.

For the sake of a few bucks, just get it done at Apple and have it done perfectly, with warranty.

    Replaced for free!?

My 6's screen looks similar to how yours looked... I haven't bothered taking it into Apple as I assume it would cost me money, and i'm not willing to spend money having it repaired as the phone still works fine.

Free though!? How? I too have bought various Apple things... not recently, but it'd be into the 5 figure range easily over the years, attributed to my AppleID...

unrelated, but do you guys know if the back plate and front white can be changed to something more elegant? White/ Gold is far less elegant than Black and gold

Wow, just wow. That is some awesome customer service. At least you had a history of purchases to show so that's fair enough, you are throwing a lot of money their way and it may pay off in the long run to keep you as a customer.
