There’s not much info out there so for those that haven't stumbled across this, here are the details on hands and theory based soldering courses that are run around Australia.

Training courses range from introduction to soldering for beginners up to class 3 high reliability soldering IPC certification which is a worldwide certification.

    Fundamentals of Soldering
Each attendee is supplied with their own pcb with loose surface mount and through hole components to hand load from which they will be educated of additional techniques and consumables to use to improve their soldering techniques.

    Production Line Soldering
This practical course suits companies or individuals that hand solder small/medium productions runs of pcbs and are looking to improve their soldering techniques to achieve the preferred high reliability solder joints.

Advanced SMT and Through Hole Rework and Repair
This course focuses removal and placement of through-hole and surface components i.e. SOIC, TQFP, Chips, Melfs, SOT etc using soldering irons, hot air and infra-red equipment. This course is run with many of the major warranty service centers across Australia, military and aviation workshops and is now available for companies or individuals looking to advance their existing skills to tackle fine pitch surface mount rework or heavy through hole applications.

Did the "Fundamentals of Soldering" course at the end of last year.
Great course! I'm no stranger to soldering, and the methods and techniques taught in the single day have definitely improved my skills!

Full disclosure: I did the course for free thanks to a generous offer by Mark. Still fully recommend it and thinks it's worth the money charged!

I live in Perth and would be very interested in attending a course. Probably just the Fundamentals of Soldering course, not sure how basic that is compared to my skill (not that I'm overly good or anything...)

Any chance of these happening in Brisbane (and how much the courses are)? I'd love to brush up on my soldering skills.

I did the advanced course this week and it was excellent. Even after a few years of assembling kits I still gained a lot of knowledge.

I can see a course happening in Brisbane in the coming months.

Course costs in our Western Sydney training centre for the day courses are $250 per person and for interstate we have to cover for travel/accommodation costs so it would be slightly higher and would range from $275 - $350 per person for the day course and that range is based on location and number of people attending the course.

If anyone has an interest in sitting a course in other states, reply to this thread so i can keep a track of interest and i can keep you in the loop and once there is enough numbers to be able to run a class we could get the ball rolling.

Also if there is anyone that is willing to let us use your employers boardroom/facility to run the course that too will help keep the costs down for all.
