*edit* this has been resolved thanks!!

Hey all, I'm trying to install mavericks on my 2010 MacBook. For some reason I can't get disk utility to allow me to format the disk as GPT as the option isn't there. I tried to do it via the command line with no luck either.
I'm using a flash drive I created for the install. Any ideas?

The hard drive was previously used in a windows machine, however my understanding of disk utility is I can change to GPT as long as the drive isn't currently in use as a boot drive

have you tried from internet recovery?

you could also use a snow leopard disk just for format it, snow leopard doesn't give a shit (like honey badgers!)

    Yeah no luck unfortunately.
    Only options I get are:
    Mac OS extended (journaled)
    Mac OS extended
Mac OS extended (case sensitive, journaled)
    Mac OS extended (case sensitive)
    MS-DOS (FAT)

Do I need to do something else?

Hey, so just so I understand:

    You boot to the installer
    Open DU
Click on the HD, go into the partition section
Set to One Partition (where it says Current)
    Hit the options button
But there's no option for GUID/GPT?

Hold up, I might have finally got it to work!!

Strong PEBKAC issue, my mistake, I think I should go to bed (was trying to do it from erase and not partition)
