what ceiling mount did you use not4us?
This one here. It's simple, does the job and it's cheap. And in top of that, it looks rather good (wife's approval ticked) unlike some of those square metal mounts doing the rounds in ebay or even the original Dell one.
Of my setup?
Not yet, was to tired when I finished last night...
But will take some this week to showoff
yepo of yours
Always love seeing projectors setup
i received my 1800MP last week also. for $640 i love it. racked up a good 30hours in a week laying in bed
Ive had mine a few months now and have only done about 80 hours i think
I think mine is going to be used A LOT since it has replaced my lounge room TV. No that we watch much live TV but a lot of recorded shows. movies and sports.
Funnily enough, the 1800MP has one of the cheapest lamps out of all the Dell projectors at only $233 so it wont be a big issue replacing the lamp every now and then.
That's one good thing about DLP projectors as opposed to 3LCD ones: on the DLP all that degrades is the lamp, whereas on the 3LCD the LCD's apparently degrade with time and there's no easy replacement for those.
Can't be happier with my pj. This has been one of my best purchases ever!
I think once my projector is correctly mounted and i have a STB hooked up to it, it will see a lot more action. But yeah at the moment, its had an easy life. How are you coping with the 'rainbow' effect? Also, have you got your colours sorted out? I seem to get shit red/yellow reproductions when colour is set to anything but CUSTOM
Neither I or anyone in my family can really see the "rainbow effect", weird?
As for the colours, my wife is a professional photographer so she set them up manually, from what I remember, she removed some red and added a bit of green.
However, I'm thinking on getting the "Digital Video Essentials" DVD to help me calibrate both screen and speakers (my HTPC is connected to a DTS 5.1 decoder).
Can't wait to get home tonight and enjoy some movies!!!
It's quite prevalent with movies with dark scenes and movement. It depends on your eye movements as well though. If you take in the whole picture, you can't see it, but if you move your eyes around you can see it there. I've basically worked out how to watch it so i don't even notice it anymore.
On bright scenes (and gaming on the XBOX) it's not even there at all really.
Rainbow effect doesn't effect everyone
We may not see it as we sit quite far from the "screen" (around 5 meters). But then again, I've got really close to the "screen" and didn't notice anything.
As TOX says, not everyone notices it and I guess I'm lucky in that no one at home can see it
probably right there. Might just be me
Thats probably why. The further back you are, the less you need to move your eyes. Its most prominent on rolling white credits at the end of a movie on black background. If you want to check if you can see the rainbow effect go a bit closer to the screen during the credits and move your eyes quickly right to left left to right etc.
Also the faster the color wheel on your projector the harder it is to see them.
whats the resolution on these dell models?
the resolution is 1024x768 on the 1800MP. So it's 4:3 and not natively widescreen. And yes, the black bars on the top and bottom are not truly black in a dark room which can be a little annoying when watching widescreen dvds.
I've heard the rainbow effect is noticable to 1 in 5 people. One of the guys who works here get a ripper headache if he sits through a whole movie.
If I look for it, I can notice it but otherwise it's not a big issue.
yes but the ones the op quoted is the 1201mp http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/proj_1201mp?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~ck=anavml
which is only 800x600
Cryogenic was the OP and he made no metion of the 1201mp.
BTW, I looked at DFO today and all the 1800MP are gone!
When I bought mine they had 4 left and had been sitting there for a while nad now in less than a week al 4 are gone.
