I still remember walking into MYER and they had PS3's for sale at $1000 right next to 40" LCD TV's for $14,000 LOL haha
how sad would you feel if you purchased both at that time when you could now get them both for under $500

I paid $1000 for my American PS1 and $150 each for two titles (Wipeout and Destruction Derby) when they launched - I don't regret it at all as I enjoyed it for a full year before Australia received its first PS1's.

A mate of mine the previous year paid $1600 for his Japanese PS1 on the week of retail launch (back in 1994) and nearly $500 for the one and only game that was available at the time - the Japanese arcade port of Ridge Racer. Again, no regrets because we could not let go of that game - we would play and play and play and play, just mesmerised by the speed, framerate and the glory of the texture-mapped 3D graphics on a HOME CONSOLE. Ultimately he was rorted by the grey importer, and he knew that, but it was the only way to get his hands on it that week.

These days there seems to be less to be excited about - there isn't as much of a leap in the technology level as there was in the halcyon days of the late 80's and early 90's. With that in mind, I won't buy a PS4 for myself until at least the third manufacturing generation just as I did with the PS3 (bought my PS3 at the first major price drop to $400).

there is no reason the ps4 couldn't do 3d, it just means you have to render more shit and do more testing, up to the developer.

I don't get why people made a fuss that the console wasn't shown, I'll tell you why, because it looks like a PC atm, I have a devkit and it is literally a PC in a shiny cooler master case.

Here's a guess, it will look like a sleek black box. If you liked the look of ps2 and ps3 you wont have a problem.

Is the devkit actually a standard PC? Off-the-shelf mainboard/CPU/GPU all shoved together in a mATX case? Or is it all custom hardware and it's just in the mATX case because that was about the right size?

Presumably we're looking at a matte black finish again this time? Sony seems to have decided that the glossy black from the original PS3 wasn't such a good idea, since all the new models are matte.

Is a earlier devkit, later ones have the close to final specs with 2x the RAM as usual. But yeah afaik they all sit in pretty much mATX cases.

This pic posted by Kotaku is the most recent devkit design (these are still rare) that from what I've been told has a slightly better GPU.

I have the older orbis devkit, its not exactly this case but its pretty close.

I couldn't tell you what the hardware inside is nor take a pic but I have seen inside and it just looks like a pc. I actually don't really use mine as I do the bulk of my testing on PC.
