Im probably going to get one very soon. Im a bit unclear if I bought a PSP from Japan or US do they have region codes?
From what I have read the games are region free but are the movies?

Games are region free (or I think the PSP is), UMD movies are region specific. Don't forget Japan is region 2, so you will eventually be able to get the discs from Europe.

Ok thanks for clearing that out, I had a feeling it would be like that.
Now this means I would not be able to play Aussie UMD movies :(
I hope theres a hack for it eventually

I don't think 1 or 2 is covered by warranty either!

i don't really understand why people are worried about UMDs being region protected.

i mean, personally, if i'm gonna buy a movie, i'll buy it on DVD, THEN rip it and stick it on a memory stick. why the fuck would you buy a movie on UMD?

    because of quality.

a UMD has encoding quality much higher than you can stick on a memory card. it uses the screens full res (currently its impossible to get the psp to play back a encoded video the same res as the screen) and 1.8gb goes a LONG way in encoding there...

would I bother? nah, probably not, I love my video quality, but i only care about that on the hometheater

Does anyone have any idea when the aussie release is scheduled? It's an absolute joke that Japan and the US have had it so long and we have to wait.

    checkout this guy's blog:

    http://consoul.blogspot.com/

interesting read about how the PSP's processor is capable of doing 333mhz (more powerful than the PS2) but at the moment is currently software limited to 222mhz in order to keep up the battery life.

apparently sony's going to unlock it later on when better batteries are available and developers are getting more efficient with the coding.

interesting to see a console that will actually get faster with time (no hardware mods needed, either.)
