If you unlock the bootloader you'll wipe the DRM partition, which will wreck your camera, disable X Reality for the screen and afaik disable high res audio playback. Also it'll disable PS4 remote play.

In short, until somebody works out how to preserve these DRM keys, don't do it.

good thing it is easy to change roms without unlocking your bootloader then :)

XDA is indeed your friend - i cant be bothered going into detail on the process here. but im running eXistenZ rom with no telstra bullshit here - DRM keys intact :)

I haven't played with my Z3 yet but on the original Z you could download generic stock ROM and flash using 'flashtool' with a locked boot loader.

This keeps you stock if you prefer that.

Details including download links for this should be in the general discussion section of the Z3 forum on XDA.

Usually you can flash any stock based ROM without unlocking the boot loader.

You only need to unlock the boot loader to flash a non Sony kernel, so any ROM based on stock will do. Usually this mean you can flash most ROMs in the 'Android Development' section but not in the 'Original Android Development' section.

    Bloatware?

It's a start up screen and one App..

Why do people go change Roms just to remove a start up screen and one app?
