I bit the bullet on the linkecomputer deal on 64gb m4. Umm'ed and ahh'ed it wouldn't be enough space, but has to be better than the 640gb wd blue I've been sticking with for a few years now. A 3tb games and storage drive will be to go with the ssd instead. So still slowish game load times... But everything else should be snappy!
My thinking is that I currently have a 100GB Patriot drive, a 1TB misc data drive (with 30gb on it currently :/) and a 320GB drive for game installs. I'd rather buy the 256GB, use it for windows and all games installs and programs installs, without worrying about space. Then use the 320GB drive for misc data and sell the unused 1TB along with the 100GB Patriot
exactly my thinking. on the 256GB you can store all the games you are currently playing, which by all means can't really be more than 5-10 right? In fact if you're careful you can get away with the 128GB the same way. It really depends on the usage pattern; if all games must be installed at all times, well, then that requires TBs of space, no way out of it.
This second usage scenario is where I'm at. My steam library continues to grow and features a bunch of games I'm yet to have a good shake at. I don't want to micro-manage my steam library. When I back it up, it gets backed up. When I restore, I want it all, not just a few games of the minute. I'd love a 512gb unit. Unfortunately _justifiable_ funds don't allow it
Sorted through my data drive and ended up only keeping 16gb out of 30-45. Using SDelete now to zero the drive. Will do the same for another and pop them on OCAU.
Still $248.99, with shipping works out to about $255US delivered. Which is definately less than $1/gig! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004W2JL2A
Grrrr! Your argument swayed me and I subsequently upped a couple of sizes. Buyers regret kicked in when I read about the significantly lower (in particular, write) performance of the 64gb vs the larger models. AFTER purchase. Maybe I do more research in future Linkecomputer cancelled my order for me, refunding to PayPal. Whilst I was waiting for that to happen I noticed the cheapest 240/256gb drive on their site (by a long shot) was a Sandforce driven Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240gb and despite my misgivings about Sandforce drives with the OCZ and Corsair debacles, i've gone with it, but the use of the updated SF-2282 controller and firmware maturity in relation to release date of second-gen Sandforce is reassuring. Uses the first-tier Toggle NAND as per OCZ Vertex 3 max-IOPS & Patriot Wildfire, apparently. This review http://thessdreview.com/our-reviews...ew-pcmark-vantage-comparison-and-the-verdict/ got me interested, then this one http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/43...xe_120gb_solid_state_drive_review/index2.html got me over the line. ~AUD $254 via PayPal, delivered (currently free shipping) http://linkecomputer.com/products/1015006/MKNSSDCR240GB-DX/Mushkin Enhanced/ More "research" this time but damn I hope I don't get burnt!
Then 256GB M4 I've bought on amazon has never turned up (its tracking says it has been delivered a week ago). Contacted Amazon, they've refunded straight away. But now I've no drive. Meh. Funny that the support said since it's not currently available they'll refund rather than replace. I can see it being available...weird. Altho the price has dropped a further $40 or so since then.
Popped through an order for one this morning... in a curious twist Amazon appear to have undercharged my credit card by $100.
