I agree, which is sad because that means there isn't much incentive to make a difficult custom engine/game that can handle a space universe a lot of us want.

Using an FPS crytek/unreal style game engine may have worked for SQ42 (as originally pitched in 2012) - but not the now behemoth persistent MMO.

I-Novae was doing more impressive stuff before the SC kickstarter even launched, it took SC about 6-7 years to catch up to some of it, largely because they chose an FPS engine instead of making one suited to the game.

According to Chris Roberts and hordes of his fans, there is a huge incentive; apparently there's a massive market for it and no one else is doing it.

IMO it's just a matter of time till an indie studio creates something that does everything SC boasted, the graphics will suck but that didn't stop minecraft.

    Also just noticed this,

I'll take that as meaning there will be no S42 beta this year ;). Almost August and they're alpha testing a new roadmap to inform people about the lack of progress.

I think there must be some fundamental problems with SQ42, if I was Chris Roberts I would just tell everyone to ship an amazing first chapter as BETA and then take however long to finish the campaign. If you release a high quality first chapter people will wait a very long time.

If there are fundamental problems with the comparatively easy single player game that was due 6 years ago then how the fuck are they going to complete SC even with cuts to scale?

As broken an incomplete as SC is it was due 6 years ago as a smaller different game. I am all for the scope and vision they have. I just need to live longer.

Ah yeah nah, good luck with that.
I just want the MMO, to me S42 is slowing down what i want so really i hope they hurry the hell up and finish it and direct resources.

The RSI mantra has always been "We will not release early, we're taking a long time in order to ensure quality", and the SC zealots have always said "They shouldn't release anything early, they should take as much time as they need to release the complete, polished game, releasing it early like anyone else would is the wrong idea". How that has changed.

It's comically appropriate that even their roadmap is in alpha. These people can't even pull a coherent and reliable roadmap together.

A year ago if anyone had said "RSI are getting to the stage where they'll have a roadmap for their roadmap, and even that will be in alpha for weeks", people would have complained it was a mean joke.

Star Citizen dev offers roadmap for development of new development roadmap

We'd shoot our product managers if they took that long to come up with a way to communicate their roadmaps.

So you want them to forget the original pitch, and deliver what they have added onto the game first?
    Yeah.. nah!

Dual Universe beta and NDA lift on August 27th. $7usd/m sub

Be interesting to see how far ahead of SC they are.
