This thread is for discussion of the Steam Spring Sale 2013

For those new to Steam's major sales: My tips
    • Create a Steam account prior to the sale starting. Steam's servers are generally under heavy strain during sales and might time out.
    • Load money onto your Steam wallet before the sale. Especially if you use PayPal as some people missed deals last year due to PayPal funds not clearing in time.
    • On the first day of the sale (or before if you're keen) put all the games you're interested in into your Steam wishlist. It's a quick way to see if your favourite games are on sale or not.
    • New deals appear at approximately 4am AEST
    • You usually have 48 hours to purchase each daily deal.
    • Flash sales pop up several times per day. Usually 4 times per day, but it's been as many as 12 times previously. Hopefully not the latter as it's easy to miss a deal.
    • Flash deals sometimes return as Daily Deals later in the sale. Some have even returned as a cheaper Daily Deal than their flash discount. ie Flash Deal @ 66% off, Daily Deal @ 75% off. So use your best judgement.
    • The first day will comprise of several daily deals, flash sales, sale-long publisher packs, and sale-long individual deals.
    • Publisher packs are generally the cheapest way to buy a lot of games - if you're interested in most of the games. So check them out on the first day so that you don't end up buying a few games on daily deals, then getting a publisher pack with the same games on the last day.
    • Publisher packs have never appeared as daily deals. If you're interested in one, you don't need to wait for the last day.
    • Daily Deals are the highest discount for individual games. Only buy individual games on daily deals or flash deals, until the last day of the sale, then you're safe to buy the rest of your wishlist. That way you'll pay the lowest price.
    • Occasionally when the deals are first posted there'll be a pricing mistake. Eg Steam forgets to add the "Australia tax" to a title. You generally only have a minute or two to jump on these. Being already logged on and having money in your Steam wallet really helps in these situations.
    • Steam support is overloaded during the sale. By the time they respond to an issue, it might be too late. Make sure you have any outstanding issues (especially with payments) sorted before the sale.
    • You can compare Steam's regional pricing by adding "/?cc=" and the country code to the URL. Eg Steam's Australian store is "/?cc=au" Steam's US store is "/?cc=us" Steam's UK store is "/?cc=uk". Remember to change the store back to your Steam account's default store before buying as the transaction won't go though if the store's region and your account's region don't match.
    • Steam's store servers go down during the sale. There's no need to tell us that, we know. Give it 5 minutes and try again. Hitting F5 every second isn't helping anyone.
    • Steam's download servers slow down during the sale. Everyone is trying to download the games they just bought. We don't need to be told this either. You can try downloading overnight, or changing your download server to a different one. Note that the Steam app will try other servers automatically and unless you run a 3rd party program (like Steamwatch), you can't force Steam to download from only one server.
    • I'll link each day's deals back to this first post, so if you're looking for the current deal, click on the day's link below.

Again Steam with the Crysis collection.

Greater than the sum of its parts...

Skyrim was on sale when I looked as well, $17 or so for the legendary edition.

Is the extra DLC worth it for Skyrim? I'll be playing it for the first time.

No, there will still be a New Year Sale. With most of the deals repeated at the same discount.

I'd buy the legendary edition.. It is without doubt an extraordinary game and you can't help but get sucked into the vastness of its content..

That said, most of the mods require either 1 or both of the DLC which could be expensive down the track..

I wished there was a cheap way to get the DLC for non legendary people.. sadly it seems that once again, publishers screw anyone who doesn't wait for a GOTY edition..:sick::sick:

Thanks Chris, I've always wondered exactly how the Steam sales work and when is the best time to buy. Great breakdown.

What are the chances of games being even cheaper soon?

I'm thinking of that legendary Skyrim and State of Decay but don't want to get burnt later on if it's cheaper.

    Recommendations?

They are localising the page depending on what hemisphere you're in.

Skyrim shouldn't get cheaper as it is a daily deal afterall. The email that valve sent out to pubs prevents any RRP changes during the sales.
