I keep buying different brands of gnocchi, but most of them seem to be incredibly sour and leave a terrible aftertaste.
Before I start doing my own investigations as to which brands are edible (I haven't kept a record), does anyone know of a reasonably priced brand (<$5) that doesn't taste sour?

I've never find an edible packet gnocchi. They're all like dried up, potato cardboard mix.

My Nonna used to make the best Gnocchi , so perhaps I'm over critical, or unrealistic, but I honestly don't think so, they're just really bad. Like night and day.

There shouldn't be any real flavour btw - other than that from egg, and some salt, but it should very mild. It's all about the texture. Your best bet is probably going to be A reputable italian deli or something that has some "home made" frozen ( I think frozen is the only way it will keep properly ?)

Get outta here you italian with the best damn food in the whole world.+

Surely there'd be a local deli (read: Nonna) who does fresh gnocchi? The italians are everywhere and there's no reason that wouldn't have some eh

It's literally the easiest pasta on earth to make yourself, and involves no special tools. Make it yourself.

    Gnocchi's not Pasta.
    It's potatoes.

Not according to wiki. Potato Gnocchi is probably the best known.

Most store gnocchi seems like its made in the same factory using powdered potatoes.

Edit: actually a quick look seems to say I'm correct.

The best Gnocchi, assuming its not lying is the Coles brand. Everything else is dehydrated potato.

INGREDIENTS: Potato (66%) [Potato, Preservative (223)], Flour [Wheat Flour, Thiamin, Folic Acid], Egg (2.0%), Canola Oil, Salt.

    just make it

literally push boiled potato through a strainer then add some flour egg and salt

very important you do this and not mash it otherwise you end up with a gluey gluggy mess

it freezes too so then you don't have to make it every time you want to eat it and $5 will get you kilos worth.
