Hey guys, I got the above server for free from a FB sale. I've done some research and it seems I can't get ANYTHING from Oracle without having a "support contract" with them (meaning heaps of $$$ when I only need a couple of files).

So I was wondering if anyone has access to this sort of thing and could get drivers for Windows Server 2003, 2008 and the last 2 or 3 BIOS updates (in case the latest is a dud). Money may be provided if required.

    Thanks in advance.

    Admins please move if necessary.

I've got it installed but would like them to be on the safe side. Need the BIOS update more than anything as the current one doesn't have the AMD-v option that's avail in the newer BIOS's

The sun fire servers predominantly run Solaris which you can grab for free or oracles VM.

I downloaded both yesterday and will be putting them VM on my x4200 th I should week.

Just create an account - their site is a biatch to navigate through I must admit, but it's all there.

He wants to run Windows, and he wants a BIOS update. Not Solaris VM's.

Have you ever tried putting windows on a mac ? you would have run into the same issues - unable to get drivers/bios.

work out who makes the chipset or raid controller and you can usually get the driver fro mthe manufacturer (typically sun used LSI based raid controllers or nforce as stated)

Yeah, i actually use that as much 'desktop'.

X2200's are fully supported with Windows Server. You suggest running Windows on Mac is a no-no.. yet drivers are provided by Apple...

    X2200 supported OS list.

    Solaris 10 6/06 64-bit
    RHEL 3.7 32-bit/64-bit
    RHEL 4.3 32-bit/64-bit
    RHEL 5 32-bit/64-bit
    SLES 9 SP3 64-bit
    SLES 10 64-bit
    VMWare ESX 3.0.2
    VMWare ESX/ESXi 3.5 U2[1]
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard and Enterprise Edition1
    Windows Server 2008 (supported)

OP - it might be easier to to just run ESX on it, and Windows inside that, less demands on software from Sun/oracle and thus can probably avoid the annoying support contract issues.
