Funny you should mention Encassa I was there last week and their potatoes seem to get better every time we go.

Haha yea, I get the potatoes (the ones with mayo and tomato-ey sauce on them right?), the garlic prawns, the lamb and pork kebabs and that knocks me over :p

    MmMmmm encasa...must get:
    - garlic mushrooms
    - potatoes
    - garlic prawns
    - prawns/mussels in spicy salsa sauce
    - Paella

Oh, and LOTS of bread to mop up all the sauces. You gotta be alert though, the waitress keeps trying to take away my plate of garlic from the garlic prawns. :D

Tell me about it they always try and grab my left over garlic and spicy salsa.

Have you guys tried the pizzas there? They are pretty damn good as well.

Nope, never tried the pizza - I only have been there a few times for the tapas.

Pizzas pretty good. But if I had to decide between pizza and tapas, tapas wins every time.

I always have to fight the waitress not to take away my plate (Which I load up with ALL the leftover garlic from the prawns) when they serve the paella. I like to chuck the garlic ontop of it, but they keep trying to change my plate! LEAVE MY GARLIC ALONE!

    Kenta (JAP)
With a big sign saying Ramen in Japanese, this is a no frills store serving classic Japanese food including salmon and tuna sashimi. If you can make it there for lunch, there's usually a lunch special that's has been $9.90 for a very looooong time.

The last two times I was there, I had to wait 10-15min for seats for a party of 2 or 3. Why? Good ramen with a hint of sesame seeds that add to the flavour. Also has the best onigiri/rice ball in Sydney. Just added to the menu is a soft-shell crab tempura for only $5!

go to any one of the numerous thai places on king st newtown. Its not in the cbd , but whilst i was at sydney uni it was the place to go for a cheap feed.

some places i used to visit newtown thai 2, thai times 9, and thai-long. there are many others, i just never got around to trying them. if you're in a rush you can always get a takeaway box.

for lunch, you are looking at 6-10 dollars per plate of food depending on what you order.

edit: overlooked the "good food" part, sorry.

    Ramen Kan (Japanese)
    http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/ramenkan.htm
Great place to eat if you want some really good priced and delicious Japanese in the city. <$10 for a main meal and they are quite big portions too! One of my favourite Japanese places
(right next to Oporto in a Chinatown - have to go up a lift)

    Thainatown (Thai)
    http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/thainatown.htm
Small joint, easy to miss but has great thai food, most meals <$10 and nice big portion sizes. Great tasting food and quick service
(up the road from World Square)

    China Noodle King (CHI)
    http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/china_noodle_king.htm
The place is dingy but functional. Only one of the waiters knows English. But the prices and portions are wow. Get the pan-fried dumplings or a bowl of noodles. Fills you up and doesn't hurt the wallet much.
PS. Avoid the drinks in the fridge. They are expensive considering to get the same thing cheaper in Chinatown 50m away.

Caters to UNSW students so its cheap. You have to write down your order and give it to the waiter though. XD

Although I couldn't find on eatibility, the IKEA in Rhodes Shopping Centre has cheap eats.
Swedish meatballs, some Swedish sweets in the restaurant there to keep you going while shopping for furniture. There's even a kid's centre to dump..place the children so you can shop in peace.

Every time I've eaten there, it's been a main for ~ $18. Massive serves, brilliant service. Never looked at the desert menu as after the main, the thought of more food was never entertained.
