    HAHAHAHA.

This just gets better and better.

You know the 4GB USB drive that comes with this? It's actually a 4GB Micro SDHC card in a card reader.

Benchies if anyone wants them. Might be able to find out the class of the card that way.

I woke up late, wandered on down around 1pm, picked up one of the multitude they had left at the closest of three Aldi stores within a 15 minute drive and wandered home.

    :)

I only got one because the wife suggested that the kids would like food and presents this Christmas.

    Bah, Humbug.

Aye, and now you understand why I was so enthusiastically happy when I cracked my first open to see the 7K1000C inside. Not exactly the quietest nor coolest drive I've used, but the fastest & most reliable in its class.

... which I mention in the OP :D

To add salt into the wounds of those who struck out, guess what. I just heard from a mate who dropped past the original store mentioned in the OP -- Aldi Winston Hills -- and not only did they still have their mountain (albeit reduced in size) when he pushed his four across to be scanned, they rang up at $49.99 each. They had $59.99 hanging over the floor stack but they hadn't updated their register computers to the new price!!!

    Lucky bum!!

I'm not sure if the drive is going to be warrantable, but I checked the serial number off the sticker on the drive itself and the Hitachi website says it's covered until "2014-05-26"

Dural store is also doing $50. Not sure if mine was the last, though.

And yeah, Hyram. I missed that in the OP. :p

I hope you get better soon.
It looks like Aldi was clearing old leftover stock. Why else so many reports of non delivery?

Hervey Bay either didn't get any or they sold out extremely fast.. Being a relatively small town (70,000 people if I recall) I would be inclined to believe the former is true.

They did have 1.5tb NAS drives for $129 though.. I was tempted, but after reading that it has rather appalling speeds over network I decided against it.

Went there before 10am today but they had no stock, shelf packer said they had soldout. Maybe or they had moved remaining stock to storage. He talked to me in a funny way, not sure if he was taking the piss or lots of people had asked. Was it a sat only thing ? - I didnt think so. Annoyed.

I thought by law if you're going to advertise a sale then you should have a fare few in stock, no way that this advert for Aldi was legal, they should honour a raincheck.

They do have stock, they're just not evenly distributed :D

I'd still say that, that's false advertising if some stores didn't even have any on the day of the sale!

It's plastered all over their catalog and website:

I interpreted to mean that they were selling leftover stock on the shelves. It's always been the same for all Aldi sales, not just computer products.

In other words, they cover their arses. They always do. Their printed catalogue (should you ever learn to read fine print) says "May not be available at all stores."

Quit yer whinin' just because you couldn't get something cheap, Magyar. Geez, it's only money, it's not like it's actually worth anything.
