Hey Guys - you know that browser that is literally the most popular one? yeah, they are going to blacklist your shit.

    https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/forum/#!msg/blink-dev/eUAKwjihhBs/rpxMXjZHCQAJ

So Google isn't distrusting Symantec completely. More like putting them on probation. Still a pretty big impact considering the sheer size of Symantec and the number of certs they've issued.
Also, includes CAs owned by Symantec:
    Well fuck.

This is going to cause a shitshow. Can't say that I blame Google - but christ is this going to create some work.

I'd like to hear the new backstory on this. What has Silly Symantec done this time again?

I know they screwed the pooch in the past, but i'm guessing its happened again.... recently.

    Nope.

This is all still fallout from that incident in 2015 with Symantec issuing certs on behalf of Google/Opera without them asking for it.

And then Symantec sheer lack of fucks when it came to Google saying "plz explain"

Google get away with doing this, because 'they are the good guys'

If Microsoft were driving this, the Internet would be on fire with Hate.

Am I the only one thinking Google should pull their heads in?

Apple and MS are probably getting sick of their shenanigans.

When they came for Symantec, I did not care, for I was not Symantec (and lol, Symantec).

I expect they will run into euro-antitrust soon enough... You can't leverage a psuedo-monopoly in one market (browsers), to build/increase your market in another.

    Jan.

They aren't selling to anyone that i can see - but they are pretty much over everyone being shit, so they said fuck it, we'll do it ourselves.

Speaking as a vocal critic of Microsoft's past behaviour, if they put their customers ahead of corporate-crony-ball-tickling, I'd support them in that move.

In fact, I think Microsoft aren't doing this precisely because of said co-ball-fondling. Google have no ties or loyalties to Symantec.

The 2 don't need to be mutually exclusive... You're wearing google coloured glasses if you think Google are doing this solely "for the good of the internet".

Sure, a safer internet is a nice side-effect... but there will be some internal ball-tickling occurring due to googles butt-hurtedness because Symantec are doing the wrong thing.

I don't think anyone's saying that. The point I was making was that Google make money from humans (via advertising), not buddy-buddy testicle fondling of other fat corporates. Ipso facto, Google put said humans higher on the stack of things they give a fuck compared to said fat corporates.

And likewise, I would be happy for *my* sake if Microsoft put me as a paying customer ahead of their fat corporate cronies. They probably won't, but I'd still prefer that they did (and don't really care if they did it for money or altruism, as long as I win out).
