Zombie Dice: while not strictly a board game it is a table top game that i saw get played on the G&S youtube channel's show called Table Top (with will wheaton). managed to find it and thought i'd give it a try with its simple rules.
Scored the Traders and Barbarians expansion for Settlers from my birthday. No idea what it does to the gameplay so can't wait to try it out.
Played Arkham Horror last night prior to our fortnightly Call of Cthulhu game (yes, playing a Call of Cthulhu game to warm up for Call of Cthulhu). Very fun, we only had 3 monsters come out but we ended up loosing due to some good card play by the GM.
Damn you Wil Wheaton... I'm trying to get into board games that we can play as a family. Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne have already become favourites, and Catan might get there too. We tried a couple of games of Munchkin, but that soon descended into rage and fighting. It's really not a 2-player game, and you need the "right" people playing it. Got my eye on a few other games too, but we'll see how we go.
Might as well add something on Ticket to Ride. I picked up the two map expansions for USA and Europe a few months back. We kept Switzerland / India and we flicked the Legendary Asia / Team Asia to the sister-in-law and have since played a few games. The wife and I played a few games of Switzerland and we enjoyed a new map coupled with the destinations from city to country cards but the subtle change to the wilds can get annoying. On the weekend we played two games of Team Asia with the in-laws and we liked the challenge of playing against a team as well as trying to work out how to not step on your partners toes.
If you are looking for a 2 or three player game that is simple to learn, and can be expanded player-wise, then I will suggest Sequence Ticket 2 Ride is good, can be played 2player, but is better with more If you have 3 or more Catan
Played Dominion - Intrigue on the weekend. Didn't mind it at all. It reminded me of Citadels which I don't mind either. Tempted to get the original Dominion. Any chance anyone has played them?
Yes! Bought Ticket to Ride on Steam because of it, and might even invest in the board game to play with the family.
You shouldn't be disappointed if you do. Played a few games of USA with the misses on the weekend and got my bum kicked.
http://dominion.isotropic.org/ <- play all the expansions except dark ages for freeeee Pretty sure there is a box with just the starter cards if you already have intrigue (intrigue is the only expansion which can be played "stand alone").
