Picked up a i7 950 and have been benching on the frozen SS phase change cooler
    more results to come

    • 1GB Gigabyte GTX280 Graphics Card (AIR)
    • 1000W Silver Stone PSU
    • Windows XP Pro 32bit SP2

All benches with hyperthreading, I did a little 3dmark benching but did get much of point boost with the extra mhz with my GTX280 at 22k . In a few weeks though my friend will bring his GTZ295s over for some beer and benching ;)

    1mb Spi 8.171sec @ 4976Mhz

    32m spi 7m 37sec @ 4900mhz

Might even crack 30fps in crysis

    Nice results there dude.

    What were the idle/load temps @ 5.1ghz ?

Your units must be moving fair bit of heat @ 1.5V+

    thanxs guys

little more tweaking next week then im away for a week.
But then its dry ice and Anth Seebel coming over with his 295's so we should see some nice numbers 3dmark wise :weirdo:

running one core allowed the extra multi
looking forward to the bench session should see some nice numbers :leet:

One core with single thread, sorry if I fail to see the point of this OC. Hit some speeds with four cores and HT.

Only his first OC is 1 core, the others are four cores and HT?

Nice work kayl! May i ask why only 1 core is it more stable?

hes not going for stability (unless you count 32M as stability)

enabling only 1 core allows for slightly higher core mhz (generally)

some benchmarks arent multi-threaded so if you can squeeze more out of one core it will run the test faster ;)

    Nice work Kayl !

Did you manage to do a 32M pi rerun with LSC enabled ? should be really well under 7min 20s I suspect :)

What Gaidin said is correct, in some cases running 1core is faster because you can clock higher that with 4 cores, similar to turning hyperthreading off for applications that don’t use it.

What everyone has missed the main benefit of 1core over 4cores was I got an extra multiplier for free, previous bios revision on this board didn’t support that
Ie 23x/24x with turbo on for four core was the max.
But if I run just one core I have access to the 25x, if the cpu doesn’t cold bug and I get access to ln2 I have a possible validation of something like 25x230=5750
    Or with a i7 920, 22x230= 5060 ;)

turns out I did have large system cache enabled, but wasn’t running real time.
Hope to do some more 32m spi benching tomorrow night along with vantage.

Jack up the uncore frequency if you can http://i4memory.com/f83/i7-x58-mem-freq-vs-mem-timings-vs-uncore-frequency-18156/ - about 6 seconds to be gained on 32M pi from 3553mhz to 4442mhz uncore frequency at same cpu bclk/mem clocks. But you will need more vdimm to handle uncore frequency i.e. bumped my vdimm from 1.65v to 1.77v in bios. Uncore frequency is dependent on vdimm voltage and cpu cooling, so subzero you probably can do 4800-5000+mhz uncore. On air/water i'm limited to around 4600mhz uncore frequency also limited to 230bclk for now @4140mhz QPI frequency

    3553mhz vs 4442mhz uncore frequency

i couldnt run the 20x for uncore for some reason, kept crashig, so left setings to auto. running a lower multi and higher bclk i could only run the 18x uncore
but auto settings and lower bclk auto settings selected the 20x uncore for the below 32m spi bench.
i suck at spi 32m, run affinity on a single core other than core 0and manage a little higher Mhz
also did some vantage benching no tweaks

    vantage 15596 @ 4818Mhz
