Yeah ive heard this being bandied about over the last few years, with all the conspiracy nuts going ape over the US's huge store of thorium nitrate or whatever it is.

They poo-poo fusion quite a bit but mining thorium would have quite a large environmental impact (unless its done well which is unlikely because of $$$) and even though fusion uses lithium which too must be mined it uses far less.

If they can go from uranium fast breeders to thorium over the next few years and use that to suppliment fossils that'd be great, but in terms of efficiency both in size and energy output nothing really beats fusion, and why wait a long time for two technologies when you can just put it all into one and get it faster? Of course it depends on your opinion on how far off these technologies are, ITER is going to be finished soon so that should answer some questions.

The stupid american most likely has far more knowledge than you ever will in a far more technical subject than what you are capable at.

The mispronunciation is a cultural thing there. The same way that we pronounce some things different to NZers or the British. Yes, it's 'wrong' to British English, but American English is now somewhat diverged.

They're still lesser for speaking it because I'm elitist like that, but I don't think you can call this one person stupid for it.
