    Hey all,

I'm currently investigating options for getting cable to my home. I'm currently on a home phone/internet bundle with Optus for $110 a month, which goes well. However, cable isn't available through them, only ADSL2+.

Now - Telstra cable is available to me. It's $150 a month, which isn't too much of an increase for some more data, and cable.

My question to you though is, how fast is both upload & download speeds for average cable speeds, minus the speed boost? Obviously, proceeding that question, is the speed boost worth it?

I download a fair bit, and having a fast upload would be awesome too. Does speed boost increase the cable from say 50mbit to 100mbit? Or upload speed from 500kbit, to 2.5mbit? etc. These are questions the Indian Telstra sales people could not answer.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

Entirely depends on your street, as cable is shared it could be awesome or crap (But it's only really crap during peak times, I've found)

Good thing is, you'll get 100% sync... Telstra from memory is 30mbps where as the speed boost bumps you up to around 100mbps...

most days I get around 112mbit down and 2.5mbit up on speedtest.net

my mate around the corner doesn't have the boost and gets 32mbit / 1.1mbit
(remember that's still around 3mb/s downloading which is hard to achieve in real world terms depending on server / torrent peers/seeders etc.. )

    hope that helps.

30 meg cable is 1 meg upload
100 meg cable is 2 meg upload

    upload and download are counted!

Depends on what you do to understand if it's a benefit to you. I know my son tells me whenever someone leaves his xbox games and they are hosting it, and hosting moves to his xbox everyone comments the game runs much better. Not sure if that's because of the 2 meg upload speed or not!

Love cable, would hate to go back to 4 meg ADSL2!

    Regards,
    g@z.

    I'm not on speedboost.

Downloading depends highly on the site and time of day. I've seen speeds drop as low as 100kb/s, but also seen them hit as high as 5MB/s.

Most of the time for me it floats around 3MB/s to well known sites.

    You sort of can

You get three free boosts a month for the amount of your quota. If you call separately you'll be able to increase your total quota for one month to 2TB.

Absolutely it's worth it. Been sitting on a 100mbit, 500Gig/month plan and it's the perfect plan for me. Never do I have to worry about exceeding my limit, torrents download at between 2-4Meg/s, with other files around 8-12Meg/s (depending). I would never go back to anything lower than what I have, speed and quota wise.

It's worth it for me as well. Especially good if you've got lots of users/devices behind the connection, everyone will be happy. It feels "unlimited"and things don't get in the way.

    It's 3 per calendar year isn't it?

I used 2 of mine in Dec just so they wouldn't go to waste.

Yeah I too love my Telstra Cable. Being able to want to watch a movie and grab it in HD in ~10-30mins is pretty excellent. I work with 500gb ok. You can use ~1tb month by just smashing out 500gb on the last day of the billing cycle.

You need to be on the DOCSIS 3.0 network to get the 100mbps speed. You can go to the online chat thing and talk to a tech. They can give you a 98% assurance what network you're on.

Same as the other guys. ~114mbps down and ~2mbps up most the time, doesn't change much. Get UP TO 13MB/sec on Sabnzbd (depends on server location) and ~12MB/sec on steam for example.

Mines only $130/month (with a phone, which I don't use). Not sure why your is $150/month.

    Ive got 100mbit telstra cable. I get about 6 - 8 ping.

30gb game takes about 30mins to download.
5gb movie takes about 5 mins.
    20 - 30 ping in games.

When ever i get capped i get this strange thing, it doesn't slow down, it just spikes. So i can download at 13mbit, but it will spike every 20 seconds. Makes gaming a hastle with lag.
