Exactly, I did this for years to get discounts. I told them I was going to change to another (adsl) provider.....but in my area I only had Telstra or Optus cable available to me.

    https://delimiter.com.au/2016/03/29/queensland-will-first-get-nbn-hfc-cable-says-fifield/

"Making the announcement with Fifield at Woody Point on 23 March was Member for Petrie, Luke Howarth MP, with the pair explaining that the service would first be launched for customers on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

The announcement follows a successful test of HFC (hybrid fibre-coaxial) in Redcliffe which achieved wholesale network speeds of up to 100Mbps download and 40Mbps upload, at an average speed of 84/33Mbps, according to a statement from the Minister.

The HFC service is expected to reach round 18,000 Redcliffe Peninsula residents by mid-2016. "

question is when will we be able to get those upload speeds from telstra lol one would think i would have to swich providers before they would even consider it - i konw as some point the pressure will be on but those rat bags lol

    it dos say june tho

I just want my goddamned Telstra cable to be as reliable a I dunno, my old copper ADSL2+ from Internode. I haven't kept stats but it feels like there's at least 1 usage hours (say 8AM to 10PM) outage a month that's not just a temporary 'reset the modem' type of blip. In fact I was knee deep in an after hours remote job the last time it happened, and hilariously, it was at the same time as that second big telstra mobile outage so yes fun times all round.

Talking to the bigpond service desk never ever helps, it usually fixes itself in an hour or two. I would be guessing its something to do with RADIUS / the LNS or DNS related as the cable itself is always synced/up during these outages.

so.. i was on the 500gb 30/1 plan, and pretty much all the time my speed has been hovering at the 15-18Mb speed. It's fine enough, netflix runs fine and everyone is happy. Called up about something unrelated to Telstra last week, and she mentioned that she can apply the speedboost for free. Now, I used to have the speedboost on my service but i was only getting about 45-50Mb speed so I got rid of it. Since it was re-applied, i've been getting continuous speeds of 95+

    I was shocked...

maybe just conjure but i would not be surprised if there are problems with the way there system handles activated products ie speed boost i basically complained that there was a line fault until it was fixed - ever since iv been getting above 90 all the time every hour of the day most of the time how ever the ping still wavers a bit causing problems

didn't get free speed boost out of any of this tho

Any updates from people trying to get discounted, or free Speed boost?
As the NBN is having all sorts of problems, I thought I should really get Speed Boost and at least make it semi-comparable. But $20 extra a month is quite a bit.

Going to try and call Telstra tonight and organise some stuff - particularly Foxtel issues, but might try and talk about Speed Boost.

I always seem to be able to get speedboost thrown in free as part of the deal.

Did it via the 24/7 chat. First time i tried Friday i got nowhere and got put to a supervisor to be told no, today i go transferred to some sales specialist or something and that's where i got my deal. $99 a month for 1000GB, phone and also speedboost (plus some telstra tv box or someshit and the telstra air)

You're a new customer? Because sales will do jack for existing customers, but retentions can offer reasonable discounts.

What questions prompted free speed boost? Did you just discuss how speeds are bad? Or did they just throw it in without you prompting?

So i was signing up for a new phone/cable service at my new place, but on an existing account (my old man's), so the account already has 4x mobiles, a phone/adsl2 and a couple of prepaids on it. (I run my stuff on his and just haven't ever bothered to transfer it to my own name, so we've got both NSW & VIC services on the account)

I just told them, I wanted a deal as I was going to sign up to Optus but thought i'd give them a chance to redeem before i switch that (and likely existing services upon their contracts expiring). Offered me whatever price, then i said I wanted speed boost as it was very important in my decision making so they gave it to me free to sweeten the deal.

you didn't hear this from me.. but what you COULD do is call up (or do livechat) and say that you are considering cancelling your service because your speeds aren't as good as you thought.

Giving this a go now. Live Chat disconnections palmed me off to Technical Support, who then rang me. Did the modem disconnect and Speedtest check. Then got palmed off to Cable Support, also on the phone. I described that the speeds have always been 35mbps, and that I thought it would be faster and it struggles with 3 or more devices running Netflix HD. She then said she'd send our a technician... Definitely wasn't as straight forward as I was expecting... She's connecting me through to Bigpond inquires to see if "Super Fast" Cable costs more...

EDIT: Nope. Nothing. Said Speed boost was $20/m. I said that is a bit much considering Optus have a very competitive plan that is cheaper. She said "I'll check that", was on hold for a bit, thought, here we go. Nope. Came back saying $20/m.

How are you guys getting it? I was on the phone/Live chat for over 45 mins! haha.

Far out - tried a second time to go through disconnections via LiveChat. Discussed how I have bad speeds when multiple devices are using Netflix. Gets really slow.

Proceeded to say Speed boost is $20/m. I asked as I already pay so much, didn't want to spend more. They said "I understand. Would you like me to disconnect your service now."

Unreal. This is very difficult haha.

 Sometimes it doesn't work.....you just have to keep trying with different operators.

Hive: just cough up the extra, it's worth it :p
