    Dear All,

Thought I might try my luck here.

Years ago I found the sound of a ringtone too sudden for my daydreamy ways so I set it to vibrate. Soon thereafter, I found the vibrate to be too sudden also. I leave phone on silent now which is ok most of the time but I miss most of my calls. Is there a way I can have phone calls vibrate and nothing else? Please tell me I don't need a silly scheduler app to control this behaviour...!

Using Pixel XL on 9 Pie.

    TIA

Android messages just updated recently for me, and I put dark mode on. Then it crashed and reset now I don't have the latest version of Android messages.

Anyone had this happen to them?

Android messages is one of the apps where Google likes to stagger the rollout of features via some sort of server-side toggle, independent of app updates. It's weird, but I've seen similar before (e.g. the rollout of support for the web messenger client)

looking for 2-3 apps that do the following:

    1) complete device image - I have two of the same phone, want to image one and 'recover' on the other

    2) a 'find my phone' app, should my phone get lost/stolen

    3) an app that emits a loud alarm, remotely activated, should my phone get lost/stolen

my sis recently had her phone stolen from shopping trolley.. her iphone had no.3 ^ .. phone was returned ;)

Google for "ADB Backup", it's a poorly documented but more-or-less built-in feature, so long as you can do it from a PC.

If you can't do it from a PC, you'll need to root the phones to install a custom recovery environment (TWRP etc) which will offer the feature (google "nandroid backup")

If your phone is signed into a Google account, you've already got this - google "find my phone" from a web browser while signed into the same Google account (or there's an app to activate the feature from another phone).

The find my phone feature works quite well too, lost my phone when I was overseas and was able to track it to exactly the room it was being stored in before I went up there to claim it :)

Anyone got consensus on any difference between Google Play Music and Youtube Music?
I have a $10 per month unlimited streaming subscription with GP, but I find there is content that is not available for streaming in GP that would be in YT.

GPM is licensed music, albums etc.

YTM is GPM + anything in YouTube that's labelled as "music", including remixes, mixes etc.

    Noted. Cheers.
At the moment, GPM and YTM still seem to have content that the other does not. Rather than proactively migrate, I'll wait to see what happens when Google coordinate GPM > YTM migration.

On a different matter, has anyone noticed a low-volumed static noise in GPM while playing any audio file? If you pause what you're playing, there's no static, but if you play and your volume is on lowest before mute, it plays a static noise.

GPM is dead, they will eventually move over to YouTube Music.

I get that, but I'm taking advantage of the grandfathering of my subscription.
Unless content in YTM that I want in GPM is available in GPM, I'll stick with GPM until the migration happens.

    Ditto. I use GPM heavily.
All my playlists and uploaded music is on there.

Until they migrate all that into YTM. In sticking with the old one.

Got a Galaxy Tab A 4G for my kid. Doesn't have the "Easy Mode" option or any way to change the "grid" layout etc.

How do I make the icons on the home screen bigger?

    Android 7.1.1

Get a custom launcher to change the grid and icon size etc.

I use Action Launcher because they update it with the latest pure android themes.
Another popular one is Nova Launcher

    Thanks mate. Will look.

Is there a simple kids mode? You set what apps are accessed, and they get to random websites from ads etc.

Interested in this kids mode, about to convert an old tablet for the kids to Youtube, 85% of the time they'll be supervised and playing from a playlist I compile.
