    Image broken...

The vacuum breaker on the GS3 is playing up, giving me wet steam, so time to order a rebuild kit and start my career as a La Marzocco technician...

I've had it on there before. It's powerful. All the milk stayed in the right place this time

I guess I just don't get it because I "grew up commercial". It is a truly bizarre experience trying to froth milk on something non-boiler like a BBE or whatever. Incredulously gutless steam output, and then starting and stopping it is a nightmare too.

There's bucketloads of time to control texturing on a full steam boiler with a traditional four hole nozzle from my perspective, it's still like at least 90 seconds plus to do a single drink's worth of milk

90 seconds? Either I'm reading it wrong, or you wrote it wrong. I do a drink worth of milk in about 9 seconds on the GS3 (4 hole nozzle).

Yeah same on the Bianca. I haven't timed it but it's less than 10s for sure. If I hadn't had so much practice on the 2 nozzle I don't think I'd be getting good results out of the 4 nozzle now. It comes at you fast.

Note I'm doing about 150ml of milk too. Not a massive jug full.

I'm currently using a 1kg bag of Ona Maple....

That was opened and expired in 2020

The grind is super fine compared to a fresh bag and it seems it has more... bite? it's less smooth. less sweet. It's actually pretty good  issue is now ive dialed it in, i've got about 300g left, and it'll take 4 years to make a new bag

I'm amazed you have any consistency. I find anything more than about 5 weeks old pretty much just becomes a nightmare to get right.

Yup, about the same. 600ml takes about 15 seconds. It's all very fast once you start moving towards the $3k bracket and beyond.

Speaking of which, the Bianca is such a sweet machine, it's totally what I'd have had we not inherited the GS3 from the coffee shop.

yeah. it took ages. the grinder is locked up tight, if i tried to put normal beans through it currently it'd just clog up, step by step by step finer and finer and finer. just kept going well beyond what i'd normally grind a darker roast at

Can anybody recommend a solid automatic coffee maker sub 1000?

Need something that's gonna be cheaper than take out coffee 3 times a day :D

How much would one of those run? I'd love an endgame espresso machine but my goodness the price/performance ratio is so so bad.
I just think of how that money could be spend on an almost endless supply of gorgeous beans instead.

I reckon something like a Bianca is the sweet spot. It's about $4.5k from memory, can probably get it for $4k on sale, and perhaps as low as $3k for a decent machine used (semi-educated guess for that 2nd hand price).

Im guessing the Slayer is competing with a La Marzocco Linea Mini ($8k), so probably about $9k-$12k is my guess. Pretty sure the full sized Slayer single group runs about $16k, so it'll command a hefty premium over the Linea Mini (and I'm not convinced the premium is worth it). A Rocket R Nine One would probably be an excellent alternative if you really have cash burning a hole in your pocket, gives you pretty much everything with a hefty saving that'll end least one ultimate grade endgame grinder, if not two.

Never forget, grinder has a way greater affect than the machine.

We've got an older model similar to the current Dinamica at work - it has a brew temperature adjustment in increments of "low, medium, high, maximum"

What temperatures do those correspond to? No idea!

Between the rather crude grinder and the very crude temperature control, I've given up trying to get any remotely light roast to work with it... I just keep an AeroPress at work instead.
