Recently acquired an almost mint Model M from a friend who has had it sitting in a store room since 1994. He bought it with a computer to write a short thesis on, and that was it.

    typing on a 0049729 manufactured 22/07/1993

I used these for years. I killed most of them however with coffee or use ect. They are becoming hard to find these days but I do agree they are very nice to use with their mechanical feel and heavy weight. Its better though if its going to be the keyboard your using 90+% of the time otherwise it feels weird having a standard keyboard at work and then the M at home.

Another great keyboard was the old honeywell "light touch" these used hinged keys and had a very unique feel. I had a couple of these over the years but could never seam to find them again.

About time we got around to having a Model M club!

    Mine's a 1390131 made on June 16th, 1986.

Pic in the Show Your Desktop thread

Despite being >20 years old it's in near mint (and almost unused) condition. I discovered it at the back of a cupboard at a client's office :) A quick clean to get rid of the dust and it's good as gold. There's a light stain on one corner from where there used to be some kind of sticker but other than that it's pristine.

I hope mine is old enough to be able to join :)

    Made 9th March 1995
    Part # 82G2383

It's old and crusty, but I loves it. I think I'll give it a birthday soon and run the keytops through the dishwasher.

well done boys and welcome to the club :p it's very exclusive as you can see.

the best feature is typing loudly pissing your housemates off at 1am... kinda like i am doing right now bahahah, and if they try anything just grab it and beat them over the head with it... oh the benifits of model M...

might also add i recently acquired a PRE model M keyboard. fkn champion!

my god i can type so fast on this, even when drinking!@

you should all add the model M owners club link to your SIG to promote ownership.... ARRRR

Does owning one of these make me eligible?. Unicomp bought the rights to the Model M off lexmark and are still producing them now. They use buckling springs and are exactly the same except they have a plastic body :(.

i'd say it does if it uses buckling springs.

looks identical except for the logo and status lights.

Let's revive this club. They are getting scarcer and scarcer. I have three in good working order. 1988, 1988 and 1994.

    IBM model M

You can get a spacesaver from the US of A for $69 which is a good price (BUT then there is freight).
