It's just youtube actually, and it happens just when the video is initially loading.

Whats weird is that its very random, or I'm not noticing something. I was going to give html 5 video a go but it's very buggy so I gave up.

EDIT: Just happened on another video site too, whilst initialising.

This seems to be a widespread issue with iMacs and lion.

My brand new one does it as well. 100% reproducible via:

    Put mac to sleep.
    Wake mac.
    Play video.

Wont necessarily freeze the first time you open/play a video file, but it will happen at some point. Like 3rd or 4th etc. Whereas it'll play video all day fine if coming from a fresh boot.

Doesn't matter what app you use to play the video either.

Basically, don't let your mac sleep :(

If the problem is this widespread, they probably already know about it and their boffins are fixing it now, very frustrating though, I guess the simple fix is don't let it sleep. I just lost a fair bit of video work because it crashed just then.

I think a few of the issues people have are with the Nvidia drivers. All the problems I've had with Macs going back to 2007 (on my second Macbook Pro) were Nvidia chip or driver related. I think my system has crashed once or twice since upgrading to Lion and each time the logs say NVidia related drivers are what have caused it...

From what I've read there are no crash logs generated for this iMac/lion/video freeze problem. And in all likelihood theres little chance of nvidia involvement due to no nvidia hardware in the affected macs (ATI gfx, intel chipset).

Ah OK, must be a different issue in that case.

There're still Nvidia bits in the MBPs so that is different.

Happens to me too on a Mid 2011 27" iMac (Radeon 6770M)

Apparently it's a problem with OSX not reserving memory space properly when resuming from sleep, regardless of video card (though it is video related).

I'm sure they are working on a fix, but no one knows anything about 10.7.1; Afaik there hasn't even been a dev seed yet.

They are working on 10.7.2 for the iCloud stuff, but I'm hoping for a problem this widespread they will actually release 10.7.1 in the mean time.

Apart from that admittedly pretty bad bug, I haven't had any other issues with Lion. It's been a surprisingly smooth upgrade.

Yeah, haven't really had any problem, I just love how my mac doesn't fight with my PC for sharing files anymore.

Would this explain why some of my videos didn't work on iMovie.

Looks like OS X Lion USB Thumb Drives are now available on Apple's Online Store for $75.

That's $75! You would be crazy to miss out on this bargain. :p

    /sarcasm.

On the other hand, that is cheaper than previous releases of OS X. But it being on the App Store for $30 kind-of undercuts that. Maybe it's an Apple tactic to get us all using the App Store?

Seems to have fixed an issue I had on a 2009 Mac mini where it wouldn't go to sleep with file sharing turned on. Joy.

    This might be a dumb question guys, but whatever;

I've got 3 Mac Minis here; 1 Server, 2 Base.

I put 8 gig in the server already; so I've got 2x2 gig spare from that.

If I was to buy another 8 gig, and put 4/2 into each of the Minis, would that work alright?

I assume so, but thought I should ask ;)

I wonder if this update has done anything to remedy the poor battery life I've gained since Lion. 10 hours idling to 6 hours. :/

Yeah, it'll be fine. It won't operate in dual channel mode but the infinitesimal speed loss will be more than offset by the extra 2GB of RAM.

Seems to have been resolved for me in my limited testing so far.
