this is a similar thread to one in software but this thread is dedicated solely to the most "beautiful" games found on any console from the first Nintendo entertainment system to the dead end Sega system to the incredibly successful PS2...
whether it be Game play, graphics, character dialogue or imaginative storyline's.

my favourite dialogue would probably be in Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga (try saying that 5 times fast)
"your defeat will be the mustard of that sandwich, the sandwich of doom!"
    "i have fury!!!"

I really liked Streets of Rage 2 on the Mega Drive... even if it was a blatant rip off of Final Fight.

Also like TMNT:Arcade on the NES.

Street Fighter 2 on SNES was omfg when it came out and I enjoyed the Megadrive Special Championship Edition.

Are we talking gameplay or FMV sequences too?

    Grand Turismo 3 (PS2)
    Final Fantasy VII (PSone)
Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time (N64)
    Super Mario 64 (N64)
    Shenmue (Dreamcast)
    Virtua Tennis 2K2 (Dreamcast)

Actually most of the Final Fantasy series had spectacular FMV sequences.

From the way the OP was typed up I thought it was only for up to PS2 consoles :/

Otherwise yeah MSG4 would be in that list along with a whole lot of other awesome looking games.

Another vote for Nights: Into Dreams on the Saturn. Either that or Zelda: Wind Waker on Gamecube.

DKC was groundbreaking in the way it used the scanlines on the tv screen to trick the eye. It probably looked even better on NTSC. looks like balls on an LCD though :/
edit: the prerendering was nice too

I have it on the Wii VC. Still looks great.

And yes the entire game was pre rendered, just like Myst.

Resident Evil 4 on gamecube was probably the first game to make me go 'how did they make this to look so good' on a console, although I'm not sure if I'd call it 'beautiful'. Crash Team Racing (PS1) also had superb visuals for its time.

My favourite from the original xbox is Jade Empire. The graphics blew me away at the time. Can't comment on any earlier consoles.
