Mines wired now, but it started life on wifi.
Its not like wifi sucks balls 100% but you only need it to drop once during a movie with a few people around and your friends to remind you mercilessly for the next 12 months about how the movies at your place stop right in the middle of the big action scene ... :) relentless pricks :)

Add in some good time waster games on android that are good fun and its a neat package that just works. And NV seem committed to updates for android and the remotes too.

Wow, so many on the same side.
My projector will be about three metres away from the PC.
So far I've tested the HDMI output from the gpu and found that the audio output can get flaky with windows update s. Also the projector shows in windows as a third monitor as opposed to the old windows+P keys for projectors...
I'd prefer the idea of wireless display but am unsure as to how it works?

    Will look into shield though...
    Thanks again all...

Wifi like anything is you get what you pay for. That being said mine is wired and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I struggle to find anything short of steam in home streaming that the shield can’t do

That, coupled with bitstreaming, does make the Shield compelling. Has anyone run the Shield with Kodi, does Kodi support bitstreaming via HDMI?

My whole house is wired Ethernet, I'd prefer to avoid WiFi if possible.

flu!d yep kodi bitstreaming all hd audio formats that i have.
Dont have any media thats the newer dolby atmos or dts ?? (Whatever thats called) to try out. But I'm assuming if dts ma and dolby true can hit the reciever OK than the newer ones will too.

GDavid there are wifi projectors with "smart tv" functionality built in if you truely need wireless connection.
But if your audio is breaking up on cable it isnt going to be pretty on a wireless connection of any kind

I downloaded a dolby atmos and a dts x sample and kodi bitstreamed them fine.
Appropriate lights and words on receiver lit up.
To be honest, I didnt hear anything special. Going to assume its more about the spacial positioning then an increase in audio quality.

Thank you my friend, gives me something to think about and potentially something to waste more $$ on!

    no worries :)
just dont try to do it on the cheap like i did. then you just end up spending more (and having a MiBox3 sitting in the office doing nothing)

have a look in the mibox thread, but sound, remote, no updates.
hey, maybe one day they'll release an update that makes it a contender.
until then the champion is the shield. it's a beast and i like fast fast menus :)

edit - here's a list of my posts from the mibox thread

Funny enough MUTMAN, wasn't the signal breaking up it was that it disappeared entirely from the Gigabyte gtx970 over HDMI. Which I believe is just a driver thing(?)
Reason I wanted a wireless display was simply to remove another cable as LOS distance is around 2-3 metres. I was trying to ascertain if Chromecast or other such device might work?

    Really?

I love our 2085. Huge improvement from our old 1075.

Well a denon 3500 would have been a bigger upgrade I would suggest

Sorry I've never had a chromecast, so cant help you on that front. I'm sure they do work as expected.
this search might help your decision making ??

So just got a new TV for the lounge room.

Problem is I don't have a TV unit for it yet...

On the left is the original 720p 32 inch.

On the right is the new 4k 55 inch.

Not bad for $400. Brand new.

People kept asking me 'why don't you get a new smart TV'. Because I don't want one honestly :D

I use a Chromecast with my Hometheatre, and the Xbox One S (for 4k movie watching now!) :D

My setup is a little shitty right now...
