This is a thread for the people of Brisbane who have tried Chicken Curry from Hanaichi (http://www.hanaichi.com.au/) and love it. So chilli powder or no chilli powder? Have you ever finished a large chicken curry? What other stuff from Hanachi do you like? I've tried the chicken Hanaichi, nice salad on top but had weird veggies underneath. Do you know what the red stuff is in the curry? I think it's pickled capsicum, but I don't really know. I usually ask not to have it.
I assume you're talking about the fast food one, near the BigW. Check out the sushi train on queen st. mall, near wagamama's. It's pretty fucking awesome.
Hanaichi is pretty good I also like the chicken nanban. It's in garbo near the normal hanaichi store. Pretty sure the red stuff is ginger
I can scoff all of the chicken in a large meal ($8-00) but could never eat the rest of the rice and the sauce, i had a regular serving today at Garden City
Your all like 12 right? I've been eating it from way back when there was no regular and large There was only regular, but the real men ordered it with extra rice and sauce. Thus you got a large size for 6 dollars extra 1 dollar for double chicken. Ah the good old days.
Love it, been eating it since 2001, usually at Wintergarden (although lately I've been to Chermside a bit too). I always add chili powder, and the red things are definitely pickled ginger.
Been eating the chicken curry itself for many years, as Hanaichi isn't the only place preparing it , but yes I thoroughly enjoy Hanaichi's curry. Best bit of take out food you can get at the mall. Oh and yes, got to have a bit of chilli. I thought the pickled bits were daikon? Haven't had Hanaichi's one for a while but my little Japanese take out store I often visit has pickled ginger and daikon with theirs.
Ahh yes.. Back in the good ol' days when they never charged for extra sauce/chicken, then they started refusing to add extra, then came the large containers. >< Hanaichi just came to Melbourne too, one opened up in QV where Wagamama used to be.
Also a fan, but then I love any chicken katsu. Chilli powder depends on my mood. Have finished the large, but usually either don't get through the rice or just get regular. Also, the sushi place of the same name is fantastic!
(revive). Does anyone have a decent chicken curry recipe that tastes like hanaichi? Also, any idea of how many calories are in a regular serving?
^^ Also interested in above answers. There is plenty of variations on the Japanese curry online, most of them employ Golden Curry pre-made curry blocks to make the curry. I'm not sure if Hanaichi use this curry base or make their own, but a lot of people claim to be able to make awesome curry with it. In my experience I can't quite get it to thicken up like the Hanaichi sauce, some people say it needs to be simmered for hours to achieve this, maybe that's where I'm going wrong... Also the pickles are Tsukemono I believe...
Amen. Yes I do have the chilli. Yes I have finished a large - I don't bother with small anymore. EDIT: anyone ever get the pork curry? I keep meaning to try it, but every time I get to the counter I decide to stick with what I know.
It is great food, but not as economical as Hanaichi. I've tried their curry and teriyaki, both amazing and HUGE serves, but you pay for it...
