I am loving it, as others have said its Fallout in space and nothing wrong with that. It is everything the shithole Fallout 76 should have been. Cudos to the developers for putting in some good settings also such as disabling the HUD, means I can disable everything and play this game forever on my OLED and it is gorgeous Everything maxed out at 4K on my old Titan XP, guess she's still has plenty of life left in her after all these years.
It's running ok on my GTX 750. Started with a Han solo build, but the pistol damage so far is lackluster
The games got me hooked already, even playing with a dodgy controller. Please patch in keybinds for all keys asap.
There needs to be more variety in the chest/helmet armour stats. At least 8 out of 10 drops always seem to have +Stealth for me.
There's a few technical hitches like bad support for Ultraswides, and I'm having trouble dialling in the sensitivity, I think the down stairs sight aim isn't matched by regular sense (and theirs no toggle option) but it's a decent start in my early go at it. Also Nvidia can suck a duck for only putting sli for 20xx cards.
I played a few hours today. It's rough around the edges but has some fun moments. I'm enjoying the gameplay even though it's pretty damn generic and the enemies are bumrushing dumbfucks. The story, dialogue and voice acting is better than I was expecting. The humour varies but seems to fit. I haven't found any of it genuinely funny but none has been cringe worthy either. The lore seems cool so far despite some contradictions like not being able to make profit if your workers are all dead or you have nobody to sell to. I'm finding it strange that virtually all characters are the same age but that is somewhat typical for most games. The graphics are OK at times and really really fucking ugly at other times. The art design and textures are mostly good but parts of the map and some characters and enemies are downright atrocious. There are LOTS of little glitches and jank that I find really distracting and detract from the otherwise decent gameplay. There is no consistency with "wind". Some trees have leaves or branches waving around like mad while the grass is moving less and other plants are barely moving or even entirely static. The water looks horrible and there is a weird bug where the horizon line on the water flickers up and down sometimes. The level artists decided that water can pool on a slope which looks dumb. The planet's rings aren't on the right plane. Some animations are either bugged and run in slow motion or are just terrible. Twitchy or thrashing ragdolls are common but don't tend to last long. Collision detection is clunky and can result in being punted away from rocks and slopes which sometimes causes falling damage. It's hard to tell what is an invisible wall and what is buggy collision at times. There have been a few times where I've jumped onto some rocks and then started floating above the terrain only to suddenly drop back down. There is a LOD bug with posters that causes almost interlaced lines to appear at certain distances and angles. Light sources are terrible, so are the lens flares produced by some lights. There was one campfire that clearly had the same flickering light settings as a "fluro" light used in another location which looked absolutely nothing like firelight flicker and ruined the entire scene. The fire animations are way too slow. The "fluro" light that was meant to be flickering had a static bright texture so the light source remained bright while the light it was meant to be producing flickered. Apparently mock apples develop more polygons as they ripen and fall off the tree . It's a shame they couldn't polish it more or afford to get it right the first time. The reviews giving it 8's and 9's are being pretty generous IMO considering how downright fugly and generic it can be. Easily worth the game pass price though . TLDR, Solid gameplay with a cool setting but the graphics and jank detract from the good parts at times.
surprisingly unbuggy for an Obsidian game, I keep waiting for it to crash and it never does. Microsoft buying them did some good. Only problems I've seen is walking into someone's house and seeing them stuck in the middle of their bed. DIfficulty is a little off from the get go, went with normal, probably should have gone harder. Feels like there's unlimited ammo laying about (although only 3 hours in). Running really well on my i3-4330/290x too, maybe I don't need that upgrade I've been planning quite yet. Best dollar I ever spent
i just bought an expensive 'named' pistol for like 4500 space bucks, it's seriously OP. about half an hour before i pumped it up to Hard because combat is trivial, but this thing is basically one-(burst)-shotting everything even on hard. when they say 30 hours of content...does that count OCD looting every nook and cranny, or is that extra
Setting screen effects to low improved overall fidelity quite a lot. Now it's just ugly instead of blurry and ugly .
I'm having a weird issue where... Spoiler I'm in Roseway after finding Johnson dead, and reporting back to the scientist who sent me to find him. As soon as I turn it in, the whole town turns hostile and I can fight my way out no problems... but then all the NPCs are dead for further quests. Neither chat option is a fighting one, but I can't stop him turning hostile?
I'm already playing on the 2nd hardest (basically the one that doesn't add in survival bullshit which I generally can't stand). Got a plasma gun which seems completely OP, it one-shots most enemies and the others only take a couple full charged shots. My character is pretty basic, a long-gun & engineering specialist taking advantage of the semi-crafting mechanics. The companions don't seem to react that much, I vaporized one random guy away I found in a certain situation because he was suspicious and she didn't even flinch.
At a guess... Spoiler Johnson was alive and I was able to rescue him, safe and sound (albeit a bit pissed off). However it happened, it's being chalked up as your kill somehow . Anyway, I take back what I said about being no bugs. Today I'm not able to click on any menu option. Annoying in the chat dialogs (however I can use a number), but the only way to jump to another planet is to click on it. So I'm stuck until I can find a fix :/
Played it for an hour today, admittedly I'm pretty tired and felt bored. Will give it another few hours to see if it improves. Combat feels a bit weird/janky to me
