Half decent review of the new Sony QD OLED.

If nothing else, this should force mini led players to increase LEDs, zones and algorithms to ensure upgraded PQ.

I thought most of Sony's LEDs sucked last yr, with the exception of x95j and z9j.
I don't trust OLED for a variety of reasons, but the new QD model sounds promising.

Problems related to brightness, ie, maybe not bright enough or might dim excessively and annoyingly.

OLED has a higher contrast ratio to accommodate that, C2 OLED is rumoured to be even brighter than the C1 for people who like to watch spec sheets not their TV.

Dimming is something that happens on any modern tv, LED's have local dimming and it can get a bit stupid at times too.

Yes for HDR OLED can't get anywhere near as high peak brightness as a top LED LCD... but then the blacks are better, thus contrast ratio.
Correct, however I believe ABL and adaptive brightness can be disabled in many cases... but may not help with longevity of the panel. OLED can't display true white in a bright scene, but most probably wouldn't notice this.

    Suuuuure :p

Nah no real issues with oled other than the apparent burn in potential, but some companies are even warrantying burn in. I've had lots of oleds over the years using them for varying usages and never had any burn in at all.

It looks like it will be $8000 AUD for the SONY A95K if you covert it over to Australia.

    For a 65, they're dreaming.
The A90 is 5k....so it costs them 3k per unit to add QD...ridiculous.

    I've seen Samsung qn900a 8k 65in for 4k, and even Sony's very good x95j 65 will be 2700-2800 on special.

    It is their premium flagship.
They can charge whatever they want for it.
If you can't afford it or can't see the value, there are always other options.
I usually vote with my wallet and not for the best technology can offer at the time.

So you work for Sony and are managing price expectations?

Emerging tech always comes out at a premium price anyways. It will drop over time if the market feels like it wants to go with this particular tech.

    I don't work for Sony.
But going from their historical sales campaign - the premium - bleeding edge of any technology always attract massive premium.
I guess you have false expectation and it isn't what you want to hear.
That is a problem for you, not for me to adjust to your expectation.

It may not be that bleeding edge though.... we don't have numbers to verify any significant improvements to justify such a price hike.

People can do and buy whatever they want, I'm simply asking is it worth it...

Sony always charge too much for their "flagship" models... usually Sammy has a similar (often identical really) version which is a little less.

I mean look at what they charged for that picture frame looking OLED version that had an acoustic screen... was out of hand.

Reviews of samsungs mini LEDs are coming thru, and my understanding is that TCL make the mini led backlight, as such 2022 models have received a huge update to all aspects of PQ.

It'll be interesting to learn more about contrast ratios etc, cause the black levels and shadow detail look excellent.

    This samsung qn85b looks incredible.
