Damn fandangled kids with their Fancy NEW Amiga OS.
The commodore 64 is perfectly fine! I'll take LOAD"*",8,1 Return, Huge floppys that were actually floppy and waiting for tapes to load any day of the week thank you very much.

Actually I won't. I had a Commodore 64 given to me in 95 or 96 because it was obsolete and I was into games, and taking an interest in computers.
I loved that thing, and would still have it now if not for parental units!

I will take Windows 10 or even the soon to be retro windows 7 over the Commodore 64. though.

I've also got a C64, however I never liked CBM DOS. In the day I used an Action Replay IV with it's own, much faster DOS. These days I use JiffyDOS: @$:* for a directory, or press F1!

    I wouldn't touch Windows 10 with a 10ft barge pole.

Not really, I don't think I have a single Win 10 machine that is lacking RAM in any way, shape or form

No, look at the top of the page:
Home > Forums > Specific Hardware Topics > Retro & Arcade

Retro and Arcade is a subsection of the the Hardware Forum.

Discussions about software, regardless of age belong in the software forums, not the hardware forums, or sub forums.

I bet you're fun at parties.

If you've got a problem take it up with a mod. Otherwise kindly resist from acting like a douchebag and shitting in peoples threads.

Friend, do yourself a favour and read this subforum.

Go on, have a read. A proper one. (Hint: 50% of *your* contibutions to this subforum have been about cartoons. Neither hardware nor software).

We'll be here to chat when you get back.

are we having a shit got old discussion?

yeah so in case no one noticed shit gets old, that includes the kids they got older too now they also have the member-berries. They have nostalgia for things too. Just like your gramps (who's probably dead by now because he's SUPER FUCKING OLD) had the nostalgia for gramophones when you had nostalgia for those new fangled electronics.

As Abe Simpson said "it'll happen to you!".

You know what's retro? OS wars. I miss BBS and usenet arguments over Amiga vs DOS, Macintosh LC vs Windows 3.11, vim vs emacs.

OS wars today are so diluted compared to the good old days.

"Windows fucks over your privacy", "Linux can't play my favourite games", "Macs aren't cost effective for generic hardware", boooooring.

I miss when people were impressed when a new game pwned their PC and made it it's bitch, now they whinge that it won't run on ultra because they spent megabucks on their rig.

ERMAGERD ray tracing is terrible because it tanks framerate - NO that's what makes it awesome, because it's from the future!

New people will always enter the scene, and then other new people will come along. Ray Tracing may be hot shit today, but he'll be history soon.

I think we all need to settle down.

I was just trying to highlight that Windows 7 will be soon be retro, and used some other things also becoming retro to give context on the time frame.
I'm not arguing the merits or faults of it.. I'm not saying Windows 7 is good or bad, or saying all retro things are good or bad.
I will also not be arguing on what's retro or not, or that only hardware can be considered retro and all software belongs in one place, because I am sure all retro enthusiasts will know that to be a bit silly.

If the thread is to become an I MEMBER thread for things turning 10, I'm ok with that.
If we're gonna have discussions about whats old is new again, I'm ok with that. (Remember when 3D movies were a fad in the 50's and then again in 2009)

If it's gonna just be a windows hate or love thread, please mods, lock now for the LOVE OF OLD!!!

And don't get me started on Ray tracing.. it's the new buzzword people think is new and exiting.. Much like a few years back people started losing their shit over mechanical keyboards.. You know you're drooling over shit we've had since the 80's?

Anyway, sorry I geezered up there for a bit.. Get off my lawn and lets see where the conversation/arguments take us.

I miss waiting for the ASCII porn image to download on the 14400 baud dialup modem then getting in trouble for running up a huge phone bill with STD calls to the BBS that was based an entire 30 minutes drive away but in another area code.
