Graphics and Programming may seem a weird combination, but I don't think there's enough traffic about either topic to warrant separate forums - yet. Besides, they're both creative uses for PC's, so there is some connection. :)

One thing - the "graphics" component of this forum is NOT intended to encourage a rash of "let's go find some funny/stupid/copyright pictures on the net and hack them to bits with photoshop", AKA "photochopping". If it becomes a haven for that kind of thing then the forum will be reconsidered. Photoshop tips and techniques etc are of course very welcome..

I think he's saying to avoid it in general (which is a damn good idea).

Woohoo! The Programming and Operating Systems threads will finally be seperated from the other less constructive and less interesting application-specific threads. I can't wait to sink my teeth in to these forums a bit.

I agree photochopping should be kept out of this forum, but seeing as I host it on my own space and abide by the general ethics of OCAU (Ie no porn or defamation of other users) I think the idea of throwing it out the window is a bit harsh.

Classic example, the "PR" for forum admin voting. It was civil, funny and a nice change.

Does that mean a complete, blanket ban on PhotoChopping, Agg?

Say, for instance, I posted a really old pic that had creases & tears in it with the idea that proficient 'Shop users could have a bash at re-touching & repairing it. A contest, even. Is that against the rules?

    Cheers,

    E

Under what Agg said, what you're talking about would be fine. For an example of the sort of tomfoolery Agg's talking about, go have a look at fark.com.

The occasional bit is fine (and funny) but I don't want this to become a photochopping forum, that's all. Otherwise we'll end up with zillions if those "welcome to last week" pictures popping up everywhere..

[Edit: Evasive, your idea would be fine.. I'm talking about the stupid ones.. meh, I'll jump up and down if I start to see them, so everyone knows what I mean. :) ]

Because we were the admins for the old Software forum, and now that it's been split into several forums, we admin all of them.

    Cheers,
    Martin.

cool cool, but i think (in the future, near or otherwise) it would be a good idea to have seperate mods for graphics at least, just my opinion.

Yeah, I'd go along with that. I'm not in any way suggesting Bern & Mpot aren't the men for the job, but I do know a top bloke called Whitey Ford, who's not only already an admin, but is the official Avatar god. His graphics credentials are well-established, too. Makes sense to have an expert at the helm.

Agg - thanks for the clear-up and thanks for this new, long-awaited forum!

    Cheers,

    E

Does this mean the end of my propaganda campaign? Hang on, I'm elected... :)

I hope that Illustrator and other vector graphics based design becomes more popular with these forums, along with the ever so popular 3D design (although it gets a bit boring seeing every fancy bit of design get consumed by '3D' additions...).

As for the programing, need more perl :D

err dude to tell you the Truth Darkness and Whitey Ford will be admins without a question

I love to be a Mod, but no one would wanna vote for me cause people views on me <sigh>

and I've be campaigning for a forum like this for Quite some time and also supported other peoples similar threads asking for a forum like this (under multimedia side, not just graphical which is a Narrow thread)

Well shall we have separate mods who are programmers aswell??

I dont think it is at all needed. A mods job is to enforce the forum rules, they dont need to be an expert in the specific content of a sub-forum to be able to do that. Does the fact that part of this forum is dedicated to graphics affect Bern and mpots ability to enforce forum rules? I dont think so.

Bern and mpot have been great mods for the Software forum, they put have alot of effort into it. There is no need to replace them with anyone else for this graphics and /programming/ sub-forum.
