I want to grab a cheapo laptop for travel in October, then for random use afterwards - maybe watching movies etc when travelling or skype. This one from JB Hifi looks really cheap and the specs line up with what seem to be the best other laptops out there. Does anyone have one of these or opinions on it?

Good unit all round, if the casing is the same as the e350 (almost certain) RAM and HDD access is very easy (no need to remove the keyboard like the Acers). Decent price for a dual core Atom. Grab it.

Bought one last night, but in between me posting this thread and buying it there was a $35 cashback offer that dropped off :(

It's sort of a different kettle of fish. 10" vs 13", also the battery life should be substantially better in the netbook. Also 30% more expensive.

here it is at the lenovo shop
    http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/notebooks/thinkpad/edge-series/e320/

i will definately get one as im after a 13" to replace my gateway netbook, just get annoyed with small screens.

i usually avoid lenovo laptops, never liked them much, dont like the looks, however those specs for that price who cares.

EDIT: cant help myself, just took the 4gb ram instead of 2gb and took the intel wifi 1000 card, and i have my own Win 7 sp1 Iso's so no need to pay extra for 64bit.

i didnt think the BULK5 code would end so soon, looks like i just got in with mine, however im having 2nd thoughts on my purchase now, found a gigabyte T1005M touchpad tablet/netbook that would have served my family needs much better for less $$$

So this arrived today. It's the first laptop I've bought so I don't really have anything to compare it with, but:

    • Looks pretty good
    • Keyboard has a nice feel on typing
    • Touchpad is nice and smooth, no issues so far with it
    • Speakers seem to be ok - a slight issue with crackling when volume is changed
    • Sound through headphones is good
    • Webcam was reasonably clear, but I need to double check this later on, along with the microphone
    • Screen is surprisingly good
    • Battery life to be tested, but on unplugging the power cord it reported just under 4 hours, sitting on the desktop
    • **EDIT** 40 mins of fullscreen youtube has drained ~30% of the battery, which means less than 2½ hours of full use. Might be worth seeing if I can get a larger battery...
Any other questions on it? So far I'm impressed, particularly at the price.
