Ok so i am still hunting for the best value 17" laptop i can find for my editing needs, and came across a Dell Alienware for $1699 (delivered) after the discount and 20% coupon code.

It only has 2x Type-A USB 3.0 Ports, but it does have 1x Type-C USB 3.0 Port and 1x Thunderbolt 3 type-C Port.

I have a 2tb USB3 portable drive that i have connected to my current laptop that i use as a backup drive using SyncBack, but i need to know if there is a single cable i can use to connect that 2tb USB3 portable drive to the Type-C USB 3.0 Port or the Thunderbolt 3 type-C Port without using an adaptor.

It has USB 3.0, and i can't seem to find any cable that has that type of connector on one end, and Type-C USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt 3 connector on the other.
It seems like i may need an adaptor.

You can get a range of cables for usb c.
USB 3 doesn't help with figuring out what kind of Usb port is on your portable drive.

You can get an array of outputs to USB C male cables easily enough.

Yes that will be the one, thank you, and i assume i can use that in the thunderbolt port as well.

Re the link i posted, yes sorry the connector on the right that i eluded to is the micro one, but it is the same shape as the normal connector that fits the portable drive.

Yes it would appear so, but i will order 2 of those cables you linked to from Amazon ready for my eventual laptop purchase, if it happens to have Thunderbolt and USB-C ports.

If you have an Android phone you might have an adapter in the box too.
