Credit to aphasia for this idea! We love a good ghetto mod/build around here, they are unique, cost-effective, and even hilariously dangerous sometimes... We'd all solve every tech problem with a perfectly-engineered solution if we could, but sometimes it has to happen NOW and there just isn't enough time/money/enthusiasm to do it properly... or you just want to see what can be achieved with the bits you've got lying around. I'm guessing pretty much all of us who hang around in Modding have done a dodge bodge or several at some point in their modding/PC building careers. So I thought we should have a thread to show off the best (worst?) ghetto mods our members have come up with. Come on guys, I know you've got pics of your best work, so lets see 'em! Pics from the interwebs will also be accepted, but they must be epically ghetto! [Don't hotlink pics unless they're on an imagehost or your own site] I'll get this party started with a few recent attempts of my own. Apologies to anyone who has already seen these in various places around OCAU. #1: Ghetto "two-port switch" #2: Ghetto "ducted air cooling Mk1 / Mk2" #3: Ghetto "watercooled BBQ PC"
would be mad if you took the cover off the bbq and there was a TV screen there.... and the nobs are fan controllers or something
Awesome ideas! Would love to do a proper "BBQ PC" mod just for the hell of it. And this is a just a crappy bunnings barbie, a perfect donor. But sadly, I still need it to cook steaks on. Noted for the future though. Probably off doing something to a sheep somewhere, i'm told that bug bites hard and fast. /obligatory NZ sheep reference I'm hoping he will grace us with his presence and some examples of his fine work. The hose/pump bottle certainly flitted through my head as I typed the post... The best bits of Humpty's lolarious lanbox thread should probably go in here at some point too.
No no .... apartment fire. Running off a surge-protected safety switch, but thanks for your concern mate.
i think it's shearing time.. so allow me to contribute on his behalf for now... also lol@ yamaha mixer! fsckin noobz! A&H FTW
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about, cheers Creekin. Also... A&H? I wish! I'm not made of money mate. The Yammy was cheap (<$350) and does everything I need it to. Boring-sounding mic pre's though...
can't take any credit for idea. [h] has had a ghetto thread for a while now. at a 3/4 of a million hits, one of the most popular threads there. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=896218 sir, you loose 'food-stamps' for drinking possibly the best australian beer, coopers pale ale. as a victorian its difficult to give it up for a SA beer, but they deserve it. nylex hose, good for your garden, better for a WC loop. good stuff, keep the pics rolling, make the 'dodgy bothers' proud. http://youtu.be/9dmhPgUJvnE
my contribution, couldn't slap a 120mm fan directly to north-bridge HS, so rigged one up to the primary PCI slot. fan tied to the bracket arms of a sunbeam PCI scaffolding and to the latch of the 1st PCIe 16 slot. not as dodgy as i'd like but worth at least 1 food-stamp.
Just thought i'd throw in my portable fridge heatsink ghetto cooler ;D (and yes that is allll attached with wire....im poor and had no screws hahaah) And my case mod to fit another psu in the drive bays as i needed to run a GTX 295 and didnt have the plugs ;D
it would make a pretty good mod, as in if you could turn a manufactured res into some sports drink or something. i can just imagine turning up to LAN's and people staring at you and your rig for the whole time like "wtf?"
The sun is going down, it's getting cold.... and there's still 8 hours of fragging left to go. Better drink my own coolant.
Ahahahaaa the BBQ pic is awesome ☜(゚ヮ゚☜) Needs a bogan chick in the chair and ciggies butts littering the concrete
