That's why I mentioned pluging a phone into the end of the cable, I had a hunch it would either be crackly or not work at all.

I'm still getting good download speeds, but starting to lack in the web surfing arena, which is a shame. Gonna start setting up QoS etc see if that helps my cause. (am torrenting a lot)

Guys who play games with these plans: can you even get under 50ms pings to local servers? I can't and its abysmal :tired:

I get between 15 and 33ms pings to iRacing's Aus servers.

15 is when pinging, and 33 is in game

I play games.on.net with torrenting running can usually get around 30-40ms (CS Source), don't play any other game online at the moment...

There have been nights where it's gone to 100ms and stayed there for a while, but it is the same time i have browsing issues, which i am almost positive is a direct reflection on my small modem's NAT table filling, hence i will be changing routers over to a Cisco 800 and implementing QoS, will be interesting to see the results.

Note: I'm not on unlimited, but am on an Off-Net (Telstra Wholesale) ADSL2+ plan.

53 ms to games.on.net from Darwin..

But last night I was bouncing from 80 - 170 ms.

I'm actually perma-banned from games.on.net which is a shame, and it was all because of a retarded 12 year old admin.

Anyway, even on a speedtest I get 45-50ms which means 70ms+ connecting to nz servers (like Recoil NZ and ON3 servers)

Anyone care to try those servers? I can grab the IP's if you want.

Would being 2.8km cable distance away from the exchange have anything to do with it?

fair enough, but i wont hold much hope for internode offering value any time soon.

    http://blog.internode.on.net/2010/05/08/the-nbn-and-structural-separation-not-just-telstra/

they will not be able to compete very well compared to the other 4 big players due to the lack of access to direct pricing of backhaul to the rest of the internet.

practically calling for tpg to be structurally separated due to there recent buying binge

I forgot to come reply to these, so:

Roughly 400m line length, sync at 20150kbps downstream, 1020kbps upstream (currently).

    (20150 / 8) / 1000 = 2.51875 (mB/s theoretical max)
    (1020 / 8) / 1000 = 0.1275 (mB/s theoretical max)

I wouldn't account for over half a megabit worth of overheads, but it seems about right in this case, I have seen rare spikes of 2.1mB/s on my connection before, meaning that 1.8-2.0, still tends to leave enough wriggle room for playing games through it.

Having worked for an ISP who has had a bad rep on Whirlpool before, you have to remember one particular thing:

% of users on whirlpool, who have TPG, who are having issues = (as an example) 80%.

% of users on TPG, who have an account over at whirlpool = probably less then 20%.

This means that 80%, of 20% of their customer base has reported issues on whirlpool, meaning only about 18% of their entire customer base. 18% is hardly a reflection on their entire service. Users generally find whirlpool, because they are having issues, which tips the users on whirlpool to users that have issues ratio up higher.

    Anyways,

My service is still working excellently thus far, no complaints  My usage meter also appears broken (in my favour) so i've downloaded close to 400gb this month, on a 200gb plan :)

I recently upgraded to the ADSL2+ off-net plan and I live on a regional exchange and can max at about 1.2mbps for torrents and I get about 14mpbs on speedtest.

Just ordered the off net 8000 unlimited. Change over day is the 22nd. Can't wait! I am coming off 256 unlimited so it will be a nice change.

    Mandurah!
I was churned from the 'node to TPG Ultimate DSL2+ 200GB (Off-net) on the 9th (asked for the 12th ) and talk about dramas with my Billion 5200N which is supposed to be ADSL2+ :Pirate: :thumbdn:

It worked flawlessly for 14 months @ 1500/256 speeds both wired and wireless but with TPG the most it can stay connected is about one minute, or as soon as I start to browse with more than a few pages open it just craps out/no sync

This is after every line test known to man by helstra and TPG (3 TIMES) with new lines and connected straight to the wall and all that Billion AU can come up with is this:

"the 5200N fully supports ADSL2+ speeds of up to 24Mbs, we have many users with this"

    TOSSERS

This is my speeds using an el cheeepo TP Link TD8840 so I am more than happy with TPG and yes, even their 'support' re extensive line testing

I have now bought another wireless modem/router (Netcomm NB14Wn ADSL2+) from an OCAU sponsor....... Warcom and its in the post already

Anyone want to buy a Billion POS err I mean 5200N :Pirate:
