Looking for a cheap trail camera or similar I can sms and get a pic sent to myself. Wide range area has good Telstra coverage.

I own a property and the neighbour runs cattle on it so just want to know if it’s worth going out for a shoot eg grass short enough.

Don’t need it to trigger or record anything don’t need night vision either.

Will attach it to corner post or similar.

Any kind of cam will do I’ll wire it up to a 12v sla and solar panel.

old mobile phone with solar charger/batteries? use it as a web cam and just log into it to see what's going on. will have to pay for sim card with data, but you'd have to do the same for sms.

im not aware of any that you can sms yourself and trigger a shot, plenty that will trigger themselves and send you a picture everytime the wind blows and makes the grass move. Ive never bothered with the sms ones, when i go check mine i usually have 400 pics of nothing to sort through so i dont want them pinging to my phone every 10mins, but they do have their uses.

I have a mavic pro. Which I use on my block.
But I’m wanting to check on the grass length before I spend 2hrs packing up guns and driving out there.

Neighbour runs cattle on it from time to time so it could be 5cm long or 155cm long (hammil grass)

Could always ring your neighbour when you're thinking of going for a plink?

Surely a Raspberry Pi with camera module could be programmed to do this

I could but I generally decide last minute to go for a plink and as he owns 1000+ acres arround the place he prolly doesn’t want to drive 30min down the road and say yea grass is about 30cm long ect.

Raspberry pi could work I do have at least 2 spare that were kodi boxes. But I’d still need a camera module and a 3G modem of sorts.

I’ve hit up a mate for his bushnell to have a play with it. It hasn’t got 3G but should at least prove what can be seen plus see if angles are suitable.
